Lions To Have
'Charter
Lionism In Goldthwaite will be SO years old next
month, snd the local club is planning a special
"Charter Night" CeleWttion to honor the
anniversary.
The club will host many former Goldthwaite
Lions, wives. Lion widows, and visiting dignitaries for
the barbecue meal, set for July 17th at 7 p.m. in the
Mills County Park.
Handling the special address for the evening will
be E. J. Grindstaff of Ballinger, third vice-president
of Lions International . — ~
Goldthwaite’a Lions Club wu chartered on June
14, 1929, and was sponsored by the Brownwood Lions
Club at that time. Bob Steen is the only charter
member still active in the club.
The affair will be "strictly informal" and persons
wishing to attend must notify the club. They should
contact Charles Studer <v Harold Yarborough, or mail
their R.S.V.P. Box 347, Goldthwaite. Tx. 76844. Dead
line is noon Friday. July 13.
Coat of the catered meal will be *3.75 per piste.
CLUB HISTORY
According to charter member Steen, the local
Lions Club was organized to promote the paving of
road* in Mills County. At the time of its inception,
'roads hereabouts were at times impassable, and
always Irritating to tmvel The club was very instru-
mental in achieving this initial goal.
The local Lions Club has worked on many
projects over the past 50 vears. A few of them are
Hated below:
• Sponsored e Holiday on Ice program in the
Goldthwaite gym, including the ice.
• Invited the women's basketball team, the Red
Head* to play here, including Goldthwaite’a own
Marie Reynolds.
• Helped in getting the football field lighted
• Helped move the grandsUnda from Pair Park to the
baseball field. _
• Provided fund raising for the Mills County Park
and Pool proposal*
• Sponsored n Jig hied community notice sign.
• Was instrumental in the procurement at the REA
electricity idea for this rural area, and alao the
telephone system for the rural Mar.
• Bought I numerable pair* at eyeglasses for needy
persons.
• Led in the Christma* shopping promotion, by
providing Santa Claua for tha youngsters and a nice
parade each year
• Sponsored the purchase if the Christmas lights tor
Goldthwaite
• Seat children to the Crippled Children s Camp, and
alao provided counselor* for tfto camp
• Spoon toed a toy Scout troop.

58.977,976 pounds of feed,
it was reported by Lee Roy
Schwartz. Chairperson of
the Agricultural Stabiliza-
tion and Conservation (ASC)
committee.
"This assistance was pro-
vided under our emergency
feed program to help live-
stock producers preserve
foundation herds and pre-
vent wide-spread selling or
destroying of herds due to
natural disaster", Schwartz
said. Of the 1017 applies--
lions received 'during the
period. 950 were approved.
To have been eligible for
the emergency feed funds,
farmers must have suffered
a substantial loss in the
amount of feed normally
produced, have had insuf-
ficient feed for the period of
the disaster, and must have
purchased larger - than -
normal quantities of feed.
According to Schwartz,
participants were reimburs-
ed up to 50% of the coat for
feed purchased during the
emergency period. This,
however, could not exceed
two cents per pound in
terms of feed gmin equiva-
lent

for emergency water prac-
tices has been received by

The John Charles Stark
Reunion will take place July
7 and 8 at Goldthwaite. The
most important event will
be a covered dish dinner at
1:00 p.m. Saturday in the
Goldthwaite City Park. The
reunion will officially begin
at 10:00 Saturday morning
and continue with various
activities throughout the day
in the park. Other events
will take place Sunday at
other places in Goldthwaite.
All members of the John
Charles Stark family, all
other Stark relatives, all
Roberts relatives and
friends are cordially invited
to attend the
235 producer* in Mills
County.
This assistance was pro-
vided under the Emergency
Conservation Program, ad-
ministered by the ASCS
Office, to help producers
provide water sad prevent
selling at their livestock due
to the drouth.
To have been eligible
under the emergency prog-
ram, a farmer must have
had a tank or well fail due
to the drouth.
Farmers were reimbursed
up to 80% of the coat at the
practice for the following:
79 weds. 123 storage teaks,
17 pipelines, and 76 dirt
tanks.

Begins Video Ministry
The First Baptist Church
of Goldthwaite is happy to

of our Video Tape Ministry.
This ministry will provide
for the televising of our
morning worship services
each Sunday morning at
8:00 a.m. over the cable on
Channel 5.
This is a dream come true
at we launch this work. This
is an effort at enlarging the
ministry of our church. Our
church has envisioned carry-
