thwaite, son of Mr. and Mrs
Elmo Watson, exhibited the re-
serve champion breeding gilt.

shown by Mrs. Cecil Egger that
one might Just claim the title. -
Until that time, however. It
appears that Mrs. Egger will
hold the title for killing a Buck
In Mills County with the jnost
points for the 1087 season. She
has on display a set of horns
with 16 points.
In reporting on her kill she
said that'some hunters thought
It counted out M points while
others maintained It to be 18.

her husband, County Judge Ce-
cil Egger, on their ranch In the

Karen Horton, Star, exhibited
the grand champion heifer calf
In the breeding cattle division
of the 30th annual Mills County
Livestock 8how here last Fri-
day and Saturday.
The Hereford heifer took first
place In the Senior heifer class
before being named grand
champion.
David Horton, brother of
Karen, showed the champion
bull, which was a spring bull
calf and he also had the top
Junior heifer yearling David’s
calf was the reserve champion
of the breeding stock.

March Of Dimes
O. C. Head, campaign director
for the 1088 March Of Dimes
in Mills County, this weex an
nounced plans for the annual
Mother's March along with
other activities of thaneampalga,
Mrs. Horace Oray is chairman
for the Mother’s March. This
phase of the campaign Will be
conducted In Ooldthwalte next
Monday evening starting at 6
p. m. Residents of the city are
reminded to turn on their
porch lights and to support the
mothers when they call.
Mr. Head said Tuesday eve-
ning that other committees are
working throughout the county
on the drive through this month
along with the nationwide cam-
paign.
Other special fund raising ac-
tivities are being worked on and
will be announced.

Grand Champion Fat Steer
E. L. Dyas, Jr„ 4-H Club mem-
ber from Ooldthwalte, exhibited
the grand champion fat steer
at the 30th annual Mills County
Livestock Show here last Fri-
day and Saturday. E. L. Is 14
years old and Is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. E. L. Dyas, Sr.
This was the first champion-
ship for E. L. who has been
working with calves and show-
ing fat steers In the past.
E. L. showed hls 700 lb. Black
Angus, "Brown Jug,” to first
place In the light weight class
before he was named grand
champion of the show. The
steer was bred by Vernon Smith
of McOregor and was fed under
the supervision of County Agent
George Reese.
The reserve champion steer
was a 775 Hereford shown by
Karen Horton of Star. This
steer, “New Look,” won second
place In the light weight class
before being named reserve
champion. Karen is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Hor-
ton, Jr., of 8tar, Mills County
Hereford breeders and long
time exhibitors of fine stock.
The number of entries In the
three classes of fat calves this
year was hampered due to the
extremely cold and wet weather
for about 10 days before the
show.

received a new paint Job and a
general sprucing up of the store
fronts.
Barnes ft McCullough build-
ing has received a new paint
Job on the entire exterior of the
store front while the LeRoy
Miller Conoco Station was re-
painted and redecorated both
Interior and exterior.

Volunteer Firemen Have Good Year;
Number Of Calls Limited In 1967
Th e Ooldthwalte Volunteer
Fire Department, consisting of
28 members, had a good year In
1987 with only one fire within
the city limits, It was reported
this week by Ancle Morgan, fire
chief.
« Twenty-one calls were ans-
wered by the department in
1087. Of this number 17 were
outside the city limits while
only four calls were Inside the
city limits.
Voter Registration Picking Up
As January 31, Deadline Hears
Voter registration In
County is picking up consider-
able steam with th* deadline
drawing nearer

eligible to vote In the elections
that are acheuled for this year,
and this Is a presidential elec-
tion year.
Approximately 1000 Mills
County cltlaens have registered
to date, according to Brooks. It
is estimated that the county
has a voting strength of about
2200. That still leaves a number
of citlsens who need to register.
Everyone must register to
vote under the new statutes
There Is no charge or fee In-
volved.
Any member of the Immediate
family may register other mem-
bers of the family. Those who
can not come to the tax
Harper And Duren
Named On Two
HPC Committees
J. D. Harper and W. P. Duren,
both of Ooldthwalte, have been
named to the Agriculture and
Budget Control and Finance
committees of the Howard
Payne College Board of Trus-
tees.
Harper serves on the Agricul-
ture committee while Duren
Is a member of the Budget con-
trol and finance committee.
Both Ooldthwalte business-
men are members of the How-
ard Payne College board of
trustees.
The appointments were an-
nounced by Dr. Allien R. wisen-
baker. Dallas, president of the
Howard Payne Board of Trus-
tees.
Chief Morgan Mated that this
reflects a good record for tlft
citlsens of Ooldthwalte.
Firemen have drills twice
each month for two hour*. Dur-
ing the past year the 20 fire-
men put In a total of 1,032 hours.
In drills.
Five of the volunteer firemen
made all 24 drills. The rest of
the group reported for drills
ranging from 12 to 23 for the
year. Some of the lower drill at-
tendance was by members who
had not been a member of the
department for a full year.
