BIBLE VERSE
Blessed be the Lord God
of Israel, for he has looked
favorably on his people
and redeemed them. He
has raised up a mighty sav-
iorfor us in the house of his
servant David, as he spoke
through the mouth of his
holy prophets from of old,
that we would be saved
from our enemies and from
the hand of all who hate us.
-Luke 1:68-71
Santa Claus, a children's choir and members of the Baytown Historical Museum staff and
board of directors welcomed adults and children to a reception to open the annual
Christmas Tree Fantasy Monday night. Visitors to the exhibit can vote for their favorite
trees through Dec. 14. (1) Theresa Blanchard poses with her grandsons, 10-year-old
Joseph Blanchard and 3-year-old Ian Blanchard, beside the tree that the Blanchard fami-
ly creates and enters in the Christmas Tree Fantasy each year in memory of Theresa’s
daughter Terry Blanchard Chisum, who died in 2006. A true family creation, the tree’s
branches are made of blocks built to simulate Lego blocks, built by Theresa and Richard
Blanchard’s son Raymond Blanchard and students in his Crosby High School drama class-
es. Blanchard family members transported the tree from Crosby to Baytown in the back
of a pickup, which was quite an adventure. In the open ends of each branch, the
Blanchards displayed tiny shoe and purse ornaments that were part of Terry’s collection
and that they’ve used to decorate a tree at the museum since the year Terry died. (2)
Lucas Findlay, 2, happily poses for a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, played that evening
by MaryBeth Hrabina and Jim Giroir. Little Lucas is the son of David and Monica Findlay.
(3) Baytown Historical Museum Director Terry Presley stands beside a tree decorated by
the Pilot Club of Baytown, of which she is a member.
