Bus riders in Baytown are about
I to have the option of riding the Har-
ris County Transit buses on Satur-
days beginning April 9.
Harris County Transit personnel
j say they hope ridership will in-
: crease as a result.
“We did some surveys and the
customers wanted it, so the demand
was there,” said David Jones, dep-
uty assistant director of transporta-
tion for the county.
During the month of April, bus
riders in Baytown can ride Satur-
days for free.
The idea of having Saturday bus
service in Baytown appeals to many
riders.
“It’s a blessing," said Elide Poy-
otte, a Baytown bus rider. "Because
for us we don’t have a ride on Sat-
urdays. We woric all week and can’t
go shopping. It is more convenient
for us.”
Having a Saturday bus service
means riders do not have to ask oth-
ers for rides.
“1 love it. It is a very good idea,”
said Augustina Gregoire. “I need to
go shopping and have to ask family
or friends and they are mostly busy.
Life will feature a fight back cer-
emony that will give participants
the opportunity to leave their mark
on the fight against cancer.
“There has never been a fight
back ceremony,” said American
Cancer Society Community Man-
ger Heather Hines. "And the big
emphasis on that is how much ot
an impact the funds raised at relay
helped year-round for the Ameri-
can Cancer Society. And so this

and road projects.
U.S. District Judge Carl

earlier that BP had been
“grossly negligent" in the
oil spill, which began when
an offshore rig explod-
ed, killing i 1 workers and
dumping 134 millions of
gallons of oil into the gulf.
Tim Richardson, a con-
sultant for Chambers Coun-
ty, said that the settlements
might end up assisting
Chambers County with sur-
face and. road projects.
"What it does is locks in
Texas’ Bucket 1 share of
the BP funds,” Richardson
said. “Chambers County is
