As the school year ap-
proaches, the optimism that
comes with a new football
season is slowly washing over
fans of the Goose Creek CISD
teams.
Perhaps no one in Baytown
is more optimistic than second
year athletic director Bemie
Mulvaney.
His first year as athletic di-
rector came with some chal-
lenges, including having to
replace a campus athletic co-
ordinator and football coach in
April, when for Robert E. Lee
coach Marvin Sedberry bolt-
ed for Naaman Forest High
School in Gar-
land. To replace
him, Mulvaney
brought in Texas
City offensive
coordinator Da-
vid Wilkinson,
whose team av-
MULVANEY eraged nearly 45
points a game,
and had a 56-point outburst
against the Ganders last year.
Mulvaney also brought in
Pete Gareri, who has won a
state championship .as an as-
sistant, to replace Troy Adud-
dell, who won three games in
his three seasons at Sterling as
head football coach.
“I’m fired up about all three
campus coordinators. I think
we have the three right guys
for the job at each school,
and bottom line I’m excit-
ed,” Mulvaney said. “Coach
(Bret) Boyd and everything
they’re doing at GCM is great.
I saw their freshman camp
last week. There were lots of
kids and the coaches are pas-
sionate. 1 see coach Gareri at
Sterling; they have kids vol-
unteering to work out at 6:30
in the morning. I mean, that’s
nuts, but in a good way. I see
Coach Wilkinson at Lee, and
I’ll tell you right now, he’s got
his players pumped up and
believing. He just finished up
a young kids camp. As I’ve
