WORK ON NEW BUILDING
Satisfactory Progress Made on
the Cumberland Church.
The work on the new church
which the Cumberland Presbyterians
are having erected at the corner of
college street and Oldham avenue
Is progressing in a most satisfac-
tory manner. A large force of brick
masons are at work and the walls
are fast assuming definite form.
Carpenters are also at work on the
building and they are putting in the
frames for the doors and windows
as rapidly as the progress of the
brick layers will permit. Nothing
; but the very best material is bein^
I used in the building. The walls are j
b^iritf finished in whit** brick burned
. in the kilns at Malakotf and the)
-tone used in thf» tri nmings comes
from the quarries near Stamford.
The stone alone will cost in the
neighborhood of 11200.
The building is bein^ constructed
after the Greek temple of archi-
tecture The lenvih of the
will be T.'i fept while its wnlli will
70 feet. The walls will ht* .'it· feet
hijfh and will have a thickness ο'ι
22 inches. A large and commodias:
basement has been made with an
especial view t · > the accommodai ion
of the Sunday school and Christian
Kndeavor services. In the bane-
merit there will be sixteen class
rooms separated by movable par-
titions and when occasion demands
they can be raised thus throwing·
all the rooms into one large audito-
rium. The second floor will be ten
feel above the surface of the ground
and wfli be cool and pleasant for an
audience t'-r-'Uk'1: t' » ' «-ntcd * tn ti.
