T. K. Smith carpenter Austin St..
Jefferson Texas says: "I had been
treated by doctors and tried plasters
and variaus remedies but had received
no relief from the suffering which clung
to me for thirty years. There was a
dull heavy pain in tha small of my

with the suffering I endured from sharp
twinges in my loins. I had dizzy spelto
*o bad that I was afraid of falling and
at night the pain and lameness in my
back made it almost impossible for me

Doan's Kidney Pills procured from the

i SOB COBOS OP CADDO LAKE
In the Caddo I*akp field oil Ik
found at the depth of about LV
i 400 hundred f«ft. This ingoing
i down some for it is KX) yards
and near a half tnile It takes
! good men good rigs ami good
mon^y to put these holes down.
Perhaps $10(XX) is a moderate
i price for one of these holes;
'twice this is not uncommon and
all this at the outset puts the
ordinary man outside the limit
of an oil well.
Really just common folks bet
ter let oil wells alone for it's
out of their size and pile. As a
rule the common man best stay
in his limits. Big.oil peopie can
dig a dozen dry holes and go on
but half of this maybe would
put the common man on a big.
long bum.
These drillers are doing sorae
| curious thin^ in the Caddo Lake.
I This shimmering sheet of water
1 is some Hve by twenty miles
! more or less and these wells are
j going down out one and two
miles in the lake. Hugh plat-
forms are made and the giant
derricks go up and the drills go
down. These drills encounter
all sorts of soil sand shale
gravel and rock until they
reacli the oil stream or tap the
big pent up pocket and their
pain is eased and our big Uncle
is pleased too.
Of course all this under water
stuff belongs to our Uncle Sam
but our big Uncle is disposed to
be linient with his cluips and he
gives them a chance at his deep
down holdings. The only thing
our big Uncle claims is the regu-
lar royalty and they smile and
pay it and he smiles too.
It is believed that Caddo I^ake
was made by sorae sort of an up-
heaval or convulsion or explo-
sion that came in 1811 or 102
years ago. Prior to then only
a winding bayou was here me-
andering through the deep wild-
wood and that wildwood was the
choice happy hunting ground of
the Caddo Indians.
It is believed too that quite a
Caddo village was on this now
sunken land. As no Caddo red-
skin resident of that unfortun-
ate village was left to tell the
gruesome tale we cau only sur-
mise the situation. If that ex-
plosive collapse came at night
no doubt the red warriors had
beat their last torn torn and hoot-
ed their last dance and laid them
down on their big buffalo skins;
then too the dusky squaws had
sung thei-p last low lullaby to
their little sniffling papoose
when at midnight lo' came the
climax and cataclysm. Maybe
these meandering drills will find
that village and the redskin re-
mains. J- W. L.

I! You Don't Like the Town
If you don't like the kind of town
That this town seems to be;
If building s are tumbled down
A way you bate to see
If something isn't up to date
Or good as things of old
While other towns are great
(Or so you've been told;)
If yon'Id like to see a place
That's full of push and snap
A town that hits a faster pace
A town that's on the map;
Yes if a .way you'd like to know
To find it in a jerk
I'll tell you where you oug'to go
— You ough'to go to work.
You need'nt pack a trunk or grip
And leave the folks behind;
You need'nt go and take a trip
Some other place to find;
You need'nt ^o and settle down
Where friends of old you miss
Forif you wantthat kind of town
—Just make it out of this. — Ex.
