THOUGHTS
D. H. W.
The evolution of anti-Semitic
organizations is nearly completed.
The first stage is one of secret
meetings with pass words and
peculiar knocking*. The second
stage brings the meeting into
semi-public gaze but the mem-
bers are masked. The third stage
finds the membership roll open
with certain restrictions and the
meeting places definitely set And
now comes the fourth or the won
der stage—wherein the members
and organizations seek publicity.
James True, head of the James
True Associates and America
First Inc., of Washington, D. S.,
baldly tells a New Masses
porter that September will bring
a pogrom in which “not even our
■pet Jews’ will stay alive." This
in itself means nothing, is ridic-
ulous if held to the light of rea
son. There is Pelley and his rant-
ings on the Pacific Coast Vile
vituperative* without foundation
or the semblance of rationality.
The American Gentile, published
in Chicago, reeking with Nazi
propaganda and using the printed
word to add to the existent lies
concerning the Jews and their ac-
tivities in our national govern-
ment.
These mouthpieces of hate can
be laiughed off. But we must not
permt a laxness in our vigilance
to support and maintain the Con-
stitution and must bring to light
these attempts to foist on the
people of these United States a
vicious propaganda which to the
unenlightened may be taken for
gospel. In Germany the similar
origins of the Nazi movement
went unheeded. The liberal
groups laughed the storm warn-
ings away and were engulfed by
a tempest the equal of which we
have not witnessed since 1492
The American tradition of free-
dom must be guarded, and in the
pathetic spectacle of the German
Jewry we must be reminded that
small fires are easily extinguish-
ed but if permitted to burn may
set a nation ablaze.

Reveal Details of
Pogrom Planned
For September
New York (WNS) — Boasting
that weapons and forces are
ready, the first pogrom against
American Jews is threatened
some time in September by
James True, of the James True
Association and America First,
Inc., of Washington, D. C., ac-
cording to revelations quoting
Trpe which appear in the current
issue of the New Masses. The
New Masses discloses it has plac-
ed the evidence concerning the
proposed massacre before Presi-
dent Roosevelt, the La Follette
Senate Investigating Committee
and the Superintendent of Metro-
politan Police of Washington,
D. C., with the demand for steps
to stop the planned pogrom as
well as future activities of anti-
Semitic organizations such as
True’s which incite to violence.
Fingering a revolver, True in
his Washington office told Porter
Niles, author of the New Masses
article, as related in the maga-
zine: “We’re getting set! We’re
preparing for September. When
we have the pogrom, not even
our *pet Jews’ will stay alive.
And he repeated that the massa-
cre will come ‘around Septem-
ber’.”
Describing True's plan, the
New Masses article, under the
title, “Massacre of Jews Is Set
For September," says:'“The man
who predicts the September po-

Fight to Crush
Arab Terrorism
Jerusalem (WNS-Palcor Agcy)
—Uniting in a condemnation of
the Palestine government, which
is charged with “negotiating with
the leaders of murderers” The
Hebrew press has published
warnings that unless the govern-
ment provides for adequate i
curity the Jews, in self-protec-
tion, will be forced to rely on
themselves to crush Arab terror-
ism. The editorials were provok-
ed by the Arab attacks on Jews
during the past week, one of the
bloodiest chapters in terrorism
since the disorders started on
April 19th. “We are for peace, but
if we are constrained to fight,
we are prepared,” it was declar-
ed by Haaretz, Hebrew daily of
Tel Aviv.
Jewish deaths as the disorders
entered their 18th week included
an 7-year-old girl, killed by the
explosion of a bomb which, in-
juring a score of others, was
hurled into Herzl Street, Tel
Aviv, by Arabs in a passing
freight train; Julius Vagshall, a

Executive Negotiate

With the prediction that “there
would be no fear of a world war
if England and France boycott-
ed Nazi Germany for six months"
Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum of New I
York, chairman of the commit-1
tee of Economic Defense and
Boycott, presented a resolution,
which was unanimously adopted,
calling upon Jews and all other < MS
peoples to join the boycott of:
Nazi goods and services. Taking:
cognizance of Nazi attacks on,
Jews, the resolution declares
“The Jewish people take up the
challenge forced upon them. The
World Jewish Congress proclaims
its solidarity with the anti-Nazi
boycott movement as a spontan-
eous weapon in the Jewish de-
fense against Nazi attacks.” The
resolution further appeals “to all
friends of humanity and justice,
who are interested in the main-
fm ne r r of. tte'hMh
civilization, to associate them-
selves with the fight against die
principles and the anti-Semitic
policy of Nazidom.”
Another resolution asked the
governments of the world to re-
consider their immigration re-
strictions in the lirfit of the grow

Hear Arab Kings
Ready to Mediate
Jerusalem (WNS-Palcor Agcy)
—The three major Arabic rulers,
Ibn Saud of Arabia, King Ghazi
of Iraq and the Imam Yehia of
Yemen, are ready to offer their
services as mediators in the dis-
turbed Palestine situation, ac-
cording to rumors circulated here
today. The sovereigns of nearby
Arab territories have been ap-
pealed to for aid by local Arab
leaders ever since the revolt
against British policy in Pales-
tine started on April 19th, but
this is the first time that any
indication has been given that
they are sufficiently interested in
the Palestine problem to join in
an attempt at a solution.
The Arab sovereigns are re-
ported to be ready to make a
public appeal for the cessation of
the campaign of terror and the
general strike, after which they
will mediate between the Pales-
tine Arabs and the British gov-
ernment The Arab Higher Com-
mittee, which has directed the
general strike, is said to have in-
quired of the three kings what
guarantees they would offer for
the fulfillment after the restora-
tion of order of the three prin-
cipal demands: stoppage of Jew-
ish immigration, ban on land
sales to Jews and the establish-
ment of a national Arab govern-
ment
Meanwhile, the focus of atten-
tion in Palestine centered on
Haifa as, in response to an in-
tensive terrorist campaign among
the harbor employes, Arab work-
ers began to join the general
strike movement from which
they had abstained during the
past three months. Many of the
workers failed to report for duty
and others did not go to their

A merciless factual exposure
of Fascism and anti-Semitism
in America! Dr. L. M. Birkhead
has just concluded a special
investigation tour of the coun-
try, examining personally the
men and work of anti-Semitic
organizations in the United
States.

articles is presented herewith.
—The Editor.
America, Fascism and anti-
Semitism are at your door!
Movements in the direction of a
Hitlerized America are springing
up in every section of the coun-

political, social and religious—the

Nazi Curses Jew In
Court; Gets 2 Days
New York (WNS) — Herman
Mehrsten, a German alien, learn-
ed to his regret that Nazi anti-
Semitism can’t be invoked with
impunity in this country when
Magistrate Anna M. Kross sen-
tenced him to two days in jail
after he had thrown her court
into an uproar by hurling anti-
Semitic curses at Gus D. Oppen-
heim. who had had him arrested
for disorderly conduct While he
was being arraigned. Mehrsten
broke loose from the arresting
officer and tried to punch Op-
penheim while shouting epithets.
Oppenheim ducked and Mehr-
sten’* fist hit the bench. For this
offense he was ordered jailed
while he is awaiting trial on the
charge preferred against him by
Oppenheim. The latter charges
that Mehrsten ran into his store
shouting "Hooray for Hitler” and
cursing Oppenheim as a Jew.
This is the fourth of six
articles by a Jewish journalist
who joined the Silver Shirts
and obtained authentic inside
information on Pelley’* anti-
Semitic hordes. A story that
reads like fiction, but is the ac-
tual experience of an intrepid
reporter.—The Editor.
“Goehr McDonald went on.
*Tve forgot to let you in on the
latest dope.” He took off his coat,
displaying a silver-gray shirt
with a large red silk L sewn on
the left side, over the heart. “See
this? Well, we’re reorganising the
Silver Shirts. This L is the new
motto. Stands for Love, Loyalty
am! Liberty.”
"That is news," I exclaimed.
“How are the people taking it?
Are you getting members?"
“Getting members? Sa-ay, lis-
ten—this thing is getting bigger
every minute. The boys are drill-
ing right now over to Whidby
Island. Soon’s ere get a company
organised in your district I wan-
ts get you to teach ’em to drill."

McDonald told me: “Roy’s head-
ing the strong-arm squad now."
“Yeah, and I’ve got ’em going
good, too," Zachary put in. “Say.
Mac, I’ve got a swell idea. You
know the mass meeting that
Communist outfit, the League
against War and Fascism, is go-
ing to hold at Broadway High on
the twenty second. Well, how’s
about me calling a thousand Sil-
ver Shirts together and turning
it into a riot? I know the boys'll
be glad to break a few of those
dirty Jew heeds.”
“Good boy. Roy!" McDonald
returned. “That’s just what w*
