J. F. Dockery of Moulton, was
here Friday night and while here

Paul Raaz of near Moulton, called
Monday morning to get the Ga-
zette. Mr. Raaz is a son of Frank
Raaz of Valley View. and. since his
marriage two years ago he has been
living on the land of his father-in-
law, F. Glause, between Moulton
and Witting.
Tom Adair “.Sets” a Man*
Sunday at Elm Grove church,
between Moulton and Waelder.
Tom Adair, ex-city marshal of Fla-
tonia, shot and killed Paul -Wil-
liams. Adair owns a big farm
there and Williams was one of his
renters. Adair has been living,in
San Antonio for several months
but was preparing to move back to
Flatonia and had gone out to the
farm to see about some rents due
him by Williams. A dispute arose
and Williams opened fire on Adair
who returned the fire killing Wil-
liams instantly. Adair was then
pursued by the two brothers., of
Williams’ but succeeded in beating
them into Flatonia where he gave
himself up.
Three yeaffe ago Adair killed a.
negro desperado in Flatonia. Ho
has always been regarded as a fear-
less man.

As predicted in last week’s Ga-
zette, the suspicious eases- at Vic-
toria and Houston failed to' show
any genuine yellow fever symptoms.
The case at Victoria proved to he
dengue- and the one at Houston
malarial fever. The scare is over
and all quarantines removed, except
against New Orleans and Missis-
sippi. . . ;
The great yellow fever. bugaboo
of 1897 has cost the state bf Texas
a million dollars, _ Business has
been at a standstill and trade di-
verted. Northern investors’-‘havo
been frightened away anci travel
entirely suspended. The.;, yellow*
fever liar can now go back - to his
old occupation of predicting cy-
clones, earthquakes, wars and fam-
ines..
