Peace talks
No indication
when cease
fire coming
By United Frees international
The secret Vietnam peace
talks in Paris ran into snags
today and the White House and
the North Vietnamese an-
nounced they would be recessed
until Dec. 4.
The White House announced
that Kissinger would fly back to
the United States tonight from
six consecutive days of talks
with the North Vietnamese. The
announcement was made after
Kissinger met for two hours
today with Le Due Tho, North
Vietnam’s chief negotiator.
There was no immediate
indication if any other meetings
were planned in the nine-day
period up to Dec. 4, although
the regular Paris peace talks
are scheduled for Nov. 30.
Neither side would indicate
why the recess was called, but
there were widespread reports
that the talks stumbled over
the issues of withdrawal of
North Vietnamese troops from
South Vietnam and arrange-
ments for “international um-
pires” to police a possible
cease-fire.
