in February 1976 and was contracted in 1978
to be repaired using the aft section of FB-
111A 67-160, which had been a test model.
Work began in September 1978.F-111A No. 8
No. 8 is the latest configuration FB-111A
aircraft in the SAC inventory. More than 500
TCTOs have been verified or accomplished on
this aircraft, including installation of a stall
inhibitor system, strip lighting, satellite
communications, and main landing gear
trunnion. The aircraft was flow to McClellan
AFB for structural cold proof testing prior to
being brought back in service at Pease AFB.JULY SUGGESTERS OF THE MONTH
Three employees received cash awards total-
ing $9,830.75 for two suggestions submitted in
July that are expected to save about $279,646
in the first year of implementation.
Dallas F. Probst, salaried, of Dept. 305, sug-
gested the rewriting of ECP 0045 to show a
two-part task with separate schedules. The
ECP added a backup fuel control system, and
part of the work was done during production
and part by retrofit. The original ECP showed
the entire task as retrofit, which delayed
billing and production work. The idea is ex-
pected to save $123,673 the first year, and
Probst received $3,341.83.
Reeves, Beard, and ProbstWilton L. Beard and Harold E. Reeves, hourly,
of Dept. 25, came up with an idea to prevent
clams and lake debris from clogging condenser
tubes in the electric chiller. They suggested
installation of a mesh screen on tube inlet
valves to strain raw lake water. Previously,
complete teardown and refurbishment was re-
quired on nine chillers about twice a year.
The idea will save about $155,973, and they
shared a $6,488.92 award.

SCHOLARSHIP TESTS
SLATED FOR OCTOBER
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/Na-
tional Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test will
be administered for all juniors at local high
schools on 21 and 25 October. High school
juniors should contact their principal or
counselor for information related to taking the
test.
After taking the qualifying test the students
are notified in September of the following
year if they qualify as semifinalists. The
semifinalists are required to take the
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in early
November of their senior year. When
application is made to take the SAT, a form is
completed by the student which will record
information regarding his or her family. It is
at this point that the student indicates where
his or her parents work; thus General
Dynamics is identified. Taking the SAT and
completing the required family information
constitutes the semifinalist's application for
National Merit Scholarship consideration. The
winners are announced in the spring of the
senior year.
Copies of the Scholarship Program brochure
will be placed at guard gates in the near
future.
