BALLINGER, TEXAS. THURSDAY, APRIL Z. 1MZ
ARMY DAY PARADE SCHEDULED HERE
16,000 Silver Dollars
To Circulate Saturday
The stiver dollar will come back
Into Its own here this week-end
i when a ton of them are used In
[the payroll at the Harman Traln-
“tnR Center Friday and Saturday.
Fred Harman has ordered the
silver dollars to meet the April 1
payroll and they have arrived and
will be distributed to employees at
the air field this week-end. The
shipment included over $16,000. all
In silver.
It has been some time since
the silver dollar held a place of
importance In shopping day
activities. In recent years people
have refused to carry silver due
to Its weight and the constant
Jungllng In the pocket, but that
will be a popular tune this week-
end as the Harman employees put
large sums In circulation and lu
banks.
One local business man was
making hurried plans to send his
wife out of town for the week-end
as they have an agreement that
she gets every sliver dollar taken
In through regular course of trade
at his store. This week with
some 16.000 of them In circulation
he Is afraid she will get mure
than her share.
Some merchants are making
special "stiver dollar day" offers
In merchandise in an effort to
get their share of the white metal
Banks expect to revelve large
amounts of silver Monday when
deposits are made by local busi-
ness houses and by employees of
the air field Most of It will soon
be shipped back to larger banks
for storage and the paper dollar
will likely retain Its popularity.
