Facing Hard Winter

| fare a hard winter
In average years rattle enter
j the winter months in good shape
after feeding on green grass Tills
i year, however, many rattle are
j already suffering from a lack of
I green feed There just Uni any to
, be had
Many rows that are now carry-
, lng calves may not be quite up
to the task of giving birth and
taking rare of their young, aays
Dr W C Banks, extension veter-
inarian of Texas A A M College
Banks suggests that stockmen
plan a raid feeding program for
the rattle In addition to protein
feeding, plenty of good quality
hay should be kept on hand And.
If possible hay with a good, green
color I* recommended y you can't
get green hay, Banks suggests
getting some other source of vita-
min A to add to the ration Your
lucal veterinarian can give you
the names of several commercial
sources of vitamin A or you can
give the cattle a dose of some
kind of cod liver oil
Only in a well planned feeding
program, can we expect to keep
down the death kiaaes of both
cows and then calves. Banks says.
In 2W4 households where the
laundry was done at home, the
