Shannon was born in 1933
near Brownwood and grew up
on a farm in Brown County. He
graduated from Early High
School near Brownwood, at-
tended Howard Payne College
and the University of Texas at
Austin where he obtained a BA
degree in 1955 and an LLB de-
gree from the University of
Texas Law School In 1M7. While
a law student he was elected to

ton with Fulbright. Crooker,
Freeman. Bates & Jaworski. He
then moved to Austin where he
was Assistant Attorney General
for two years. Shannon prac-
tices law In Austin and prior
to his present position, he was
a law partner of James R. Mey-
ers, now judge of the 128th Dis-
trict Court of Travis County,
and Representative Bob Arm-
strong. Shannon has been en-
gaged In a general law practice
with emphasis on trial work,
much of it in the personal In-
jury field.
Active In the State Bar Asso-
ciation, Shannon is a Fellow of
the State Bar foundation and
a past director of the Travis
County Bar Association.
Preservation of historic build-
ing has been one of his most
recent outside Interests. He
serves as President of the Aus-
tin Heritage Society and is a
past board member. He is a
member of the Westminister
Presbyterian Church.
Married to the former Camille
Newberry of Austin, they have
three daughters. Laurel, 10;
Camille. 7; and Lesley. 2.

Begin Holiday
Vacations Friday
The Christmas and New Year
holiday vacations will begin for
students at Ooldthwaite and
Mullin schools this Friday af-
ternoon, December 19, when
they will dismiss. Students at
Star and Priddy will be dis-
missed for the holidays on
Tuesday, December 23.
According to school calendars,
all four county schools will re-
sume classes on Monday, Janu-
ary 5, 1970.
POST OFFICE
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Postmaster Norman G. Duren
has announced that the Post
Office will be on regular holi-
day schedule with no window
service and no rural route de-
liveries on Thursday. Regular
mall collections and dispatches
will be taken care of as usual
and special deliveries will
made.

Methodist Church will hold Its
annual Christmas Party Christ-
mas Eve night, December 24, at
7:00 p. m. A play, “An Angel for
Every Occasion.’’ will be presnt-

church. Characters will be play-
ed by Gary Green, Donna Cox,
Bobby Duren, Mike Daniel, La-
freta Pyburn. Danny Cox. Tom-

Peace, Mills County Precinct 1,

He has been a resident of
Mills County since 1933 and
served as custodian of the
courthouse for a number of
years before being elected to
the office of JP. He states that
he still opens the place and
closes it each day.
