Question: Do we have
enough classrooms now?
Answer: Not only are there
not enough classrooms in the
.existing building-, but there
is not "FfTdlffifn-vvofkiftg-wpaee
for the materials which are
required in teaching accord-
ing to present day standards
Question: Have the Ballin-
ger schools been threatened
with loss of accreditation be-
cause of inadequate space?
Answer: So far no “threat”
has been received. But in
order to avoid this situation,
the school trustees are vital-
ly interested in keeping our
educational facilities in line
with the requirements of the
various accrediting agencies.
Question: What kind of
new building is planned?
Answer: It would be a one-
story steel and masonry
building, modern in every
respect, but definitely not in
the "luxury” classification.
Non-functional “frills” of
construction would be defi-
nitely avoided to conserve
costs.
Quesion: Are any new
courses, or additional teach-
ers planned for the Ballinger
school system in the near
future?
Answer: It is almost a
certainty that new courses
and teachers will be added to
the curriculum next -year,
These will include specialized
reading and counselling.
Question: Do we have room
for any new teachers?
-Answer with facilities al-
ready crowded, no additional
room is presently available.

as architects?
Answer: Fred Buford of
Dallas, who also was archi-
tect for the elementary school
building
Question: Is Buford ex-
perienced and qualified to
design school buildings?
Answer. Very much so. The
firm has specialized in school
work for many ytars. In the
last 17 yean, more than 85
per cent of their work has
been in school construction.
Question: How does the
cost of the proposed building
compare with the average
cost lit TFxas?
Answer: Average cost per
square foot for school con-
struction in "texas is between
$12 and $13. Cost estimate
for the proposed building for
Ballinger is $11.OH per square
foot.
I Question! Will the propos-
ed building take care of any
growth of population here?
Answer: The building, as
presently proposed, will pro-
perly house 450 students. It
could easily be expanded to
care for 550 students.
Question: What about ex-
pansion—how soon would it
be required?
Answer: Space require-
ments today are nearly the
same for either 400 students,
or 550 students. Within the
next few years. Ballinger will
have between 375 and
students in high school
l Does the school board
pect Baitinger to grow?
Answer: Ballinger could
easily grow because of con-
struction of lakes which are
now proposed both above and
below Ballinger on the Color-
ado River Too. there could
be am increase

Question: Does the board
plan a “luxury” type school
building for Ballinger?
Anwer: No so-called “lux-
ury? plans have ever been
considered. The, board is
seeking to provide an ade-
quate bqilding which will
meet the functional needs of
education today
Question: Is a new foot-
ball stadium included?
Answer: No. The present
football stadium would con-
tinue to be u^ed to lhe fullest
extent.
Questionj There has been
talk about two gymnasiums,
one for girls, and one for
boys. Is this correct?
Answer: No. Only 'one
gymnasium would be built
It would have a movable
divider, to provide areas where
physical education classes for
both boys and girls could be
held at the same time This
would give the most possible
use of this part of the build-
ing at al^ hqmts during the
day.
Question: Where would
the new school be built?
Answer: On a site at the
north edge of Ballinger,
commonly known as the “old
Dee Oliver place.” It con-
sists of about 31 acres.
Question: Who owns
new site?
Answer:. Heirs of
Oliver.
Question: How much would
the land cost?
Anstfer The land would
c69t $16,000, which is about
$516 per acre.
Question: fs the cost of
tfie land execessively high?
Answer: The board does
not think so. If the land
were divided into city blocks,
you might expect to pay
$500 per lot. This would be
$2,600 per acre, and on the
31 acres would amount to
$80,600.00.
Question t How much money
will the new high school
plant cost?
Answer : Estimates by the
architect indicate cost will
be about $1,150,000. This in-
cludes land, building, every-
thing.
Question: Could the cost
run over this?
' Answer: Actual cost would
depend, of course, on the bids
received from contractors.
Adjustment* wHl be made to
keep Itw eert under $1,150,000.
No more than this will j>e
spent

Board of Education classify
oar existing facilities as ade-
quate?
Answer” No., In a letter
received this year, two defi-
nite suggestions were made
concerning plant facilities
here. First, that we construct
a new high school (grades
9-1$) on an adequate site, or
add to the present structure
which is located on a small
campus. Second, that we
provide a facility for health
and physical education which
will meet accreditation stan-
dards. Too, vocational area
for any additional courses
that may be added, and for
those that may now be in-
adequate.
Question: What about
“temporary” buildings — Will
they answer the present need
for more space?
Answer: Even now, four
old. temporary, non-fireproof
buildings are in use by our
schools. They cto not begin
to meet any modern stan-
dards for educational build-
ings, much less safety stan-
dards. The board
must be replaced
as possible.
Question: If the
carries, what about the pres-
ent high school building —
Will it be used ?
Answer: Yes. It would be
used for class rooms in the
junior high program, for stor-
age space, for offices for ad-
minstration personnel, and
for various other purposes, as
needed
Question: In the new build-
ing, what areas would be air
conditioned?
Answer. All classroomsand
office space, in the entire
building, except the physical
education department and
shop areas. Year-round air
