months, a driver has run into the
Old Oak Tree on Texas Avenue,
one of Baytown’s most venerable
landmarks.

Wanda Garner Cash, publisher and
editor of The Baytown Sun since
August 1999, has been named as the
first Fellow to the newly created S.
Griffin Singer Professorship at the
University of Texas at Austin.
Cash, 56, will begin her new posi-
tion in the fall term as distinguished
senior lecturer and fellow in the
School of Journalism in the universi-
ty’s College of Communications.

Chib Fish Fry.
Three columns of tables were
filled with almost 150 hungry -
football players and their coaches.
Proceeds from the Bayou Bowl
will benefit the Shriners
Hospitals for Children.
“We have a lot of fun,”
and fluids leading.
When an officer responded to
the call, the driver was not with the
vehicle. The officer surveyed the
surrounding area, and found a traf-
fic sign near the tree knocked
down.
According to Lt. David Alford,
police tracked the car’s license
plate and eventually contacted the
owner. The woman admitted hitting
