Fire Department
to Flay Santa
A small amount of Christmas
cheer may be brought to some
child with the old discarded toys
in your attic or garage. By con-
tributing your unused toys to the
Fire Department you may provide
some child with a gift who other-
wise would be without one on
Christmas morning.
The Fire Department will act
again this year as gathering ag-
ency for the toys. They will make
all repairs necessary to put them
in the best condition possible.
Dolls and small tricycle wheels
are especially needed. If you have
toys that can Ibe used please con-
tact or bring them to the fire sta-
tion or the R & R Service Station,
223 West Front as soon as pos-
sible as it requires a great deal of
time to recondition them.
Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Dunn had

their son-in-daw and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. (Roy Orr and sons,
Don and Ronnie, of Midland.
Texas legislators went home
Tuesday night and Wednesday af-
ter spending a total of 187 days in
one regular and two special ses-
sions this year.
Vernon Stewart, representative
from this district was in Electra
Saturday, taking advantage of the
long week end recess to talk with
his constitutents on the progress
made by the special session. Ex-
cept for filbustering by two South
Texas legislators, the sessions
went off very harmoniously, ex-
cept for discussions on the three
segreation bills, most of which was
to pass bills that would stand up
in court actions.
The last segregation bill, and
one not asked for by the governor
W. H. Sikes, chief of police,
warns people of Electra, particul-
arly older people to be on the
lookout for men representing an
insurance company known as the
County Enrollment Board.
These men have been calling on
older people and encouraging them
to dispose of their present insur-
ance to purchase a cheaper policy
from them.
Sikes suggests anyone being
contacted by such an agent to get
in touch with the police or Cham-
ber of Commerce immediately.
To the knowledge of the police
there is no such insurance agency ;
as the County Enrollment Board. <

On a frigid night with tempera-

last chapter of the most success-

Terrell, a good team, had to
struggle to gain victory over the

didn’t play a team better than
Electra as they used their best to
win. Terrell meets Bonham this
week for the quarter finals.
Closing the 1957 season the Tig-
ers tallied 395 points and had 112
points scored against them. They
placed eight members on the all
district teams, those on the of-
fensive team were Tom Nash, end;

On the defensive team were
Troy Gilbert, tackle; Neal Pace,

Another bill aimed at keeping

dispute over segregation, would
allow the school board or governor

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
with their families.
The importance of wrapping all
gifts with heavy paper and se-
curely tying with strong cord, af-
ter they have been packed in
sturdy corrugated cartons was
emphasized by‘the postmaster. It’s
especially important to write leg-
ibly, or bq’Jler yet, print the reci-
pients full name, street address,
zone number, city and state, on
all mailing labels, making sure to
include an extra label inside your
gift parcel. Only one label is nec-
essary on the outside of your par-
' cel and you are reminded that
Electra does not have any zone
numbers so you will have none to
put in your return addresses.
* Send all Christmas cards by
First Class Mail, and include your
name and address on the Christ-
mas card envelopes, which is not
only socially correct, but helps
you and your friends to keep your
mailing lists up to date.
If any of your Christmas card
envelopes are larger than 9x12
'•’iiibhes or smaller than 2%x4 inch-
es they can be sent only by First
C lass mail because such cards re-
quire hand cancellation.
If you wish to enclose your
Christmas card or letter in your
gift package, merely add the ap-
propriate letter postage to the
postage for the package itself and
indicate this by writing above
your address that a letter is en-
closed.
In conclusion the postmaster
said, "We can make it a much
merrier Christmas for everybody
if you will just follow these three
simple rules: Wrap your Christ-
mas gifts securely. Address your
gifts and cards correctly and mail
them now! Also remember that
the parcel post and general deliv-
ery windows open at 8:30 and
close at 5 p. m. The labels "Out
of Town” and “Local” and pamph-
lets giving directions on packing
and wrapping parcels for mailing
and the domestic postage
and fees are available to you by
asking for them. Remember that
the Saturday hours are 8 to 12
noon and other days 8:30 to 5 p.
