Councilman John Robert
Adcock was selected to serve
as De Leon City Administra-
tor by the City Council Tues-
day. Adcock will serve in the
position until it is filled.
The move won't cost any-
thing, because Adcock will
be working without pay, and
the city has been without a
public works director since
the resignation of Donald
Ward Aug. 12.

A pair of our ardent De Leon
Bearcat fans were not satisfied
when our team faltered in the
playoffs four or five seasons back.
They'd just not had a fill of the
drama of Texas High School
football.
The Permian Panthers of Odessa
were still in the thick of it, and they
were matched with another power
house over at Texas Stadium on an
Autumn Saturday. Trent Thomas
and Bodie Weaver decided they'd
just drive over and take in the
spectacle. They negotiated High-
way 16 through Hogtown, turned
right at the Interstate and fell into
the West Texas convoy of Mojo
Fans.
Those Odessans had already
been on the road for a good while
and they were proceeding at a
velocity that exceeded the posted
speed limits when Trent managed
to meld into the procession.
As fate would have it, they met a
• westward bound minon of the
Texas Department of Public Safety,
but they paid scant attention to the
black and white. They were, after
all not speeding any more than the
band they'd become a part of, and
they were being passed by those
road weary commuters like they
were sitting still.
"I'm a little dry," Trent con-
fessed. "I'm pulling off at the next
watering hole for a coke!" He got
into the exiting lane and, true to his
vow, managed to locate an oasis.
When he slowed to depart the
Interstate he glanced into his
rearview mirror and beheld an
arresting display of blinking lights.
Those lights were atop a patrol car.
"Sacre Blue!" Trent may have
said, "that cop has got turned
around and he's right on my back
bumper! Wonder, what he's doing
dogging me?" He rolled to a stop at
a refueling concern, dismounted
and stood as the question oil his
mind was answered, "You were not
wearing a seat belt" the officer
chided. "And, you were proceeding special benefit slow-pitch game for
at a velocity that is frowned upon
by the State of Texas and me. " I'd
like to inspect your
credentials. "Trent obeyed.
As the officer went about his
ritual of radio correspondence with
headquarters, Trent reseated
himself in the cockpit and glumly
awaited the outcome. Bodie tried to bay All-Stars 20-5.
comfort Trent, but Trent was
inconsolable.
"Your vehicle checks out," The
officer returned, "But you were
speeding-and you did not have your
seat belt properly employed. I'm
going to cite you for these glaring
oversights!" Would you like to tell
me where you are going at such an
imprudent rate of speed?"
"We're going to a football
game," Trent responded in honesty.
"There are no football games on
Saturday," The officer opined.
"You're a day early! "You had no
call to speed!"
"Everybody was passing us,"

Bodie Weaver to
host show at First

De Leon's Lobby
Coach Grady West has been do-
ing a coach’s show with host Bodie
Weaver for just about as long as most
Bearcat fans can remember, but the
duo is adding a new twist in 1999 with
a live 30-minute show from the lobby
of First National Bank of De Leon.
KCUB 98.3 FM radio which car-
ries De Leon football on Friday nights
wanted a little more for its listening
fans this season and approached
Coach West about the idea.
“I’m excited about doing the show
and we were able to fit it into my and
Bodie’s schedule,” Coach West said.
West isn’t big on street talk, but
when it comes to talking about his
Bearcats, be prepared for a complete
rundown each week. Host Bodie
Weaver , C.M. Caraway and Kevin
Caraway handle the game broadcast
duties and each week will no doubt
cook up some tough questions for
Weaver to relay to Coach West.
“There’s lots of aspects that go
into a football season and most fans
don’t know about them,” Weaver
said. “This is a great chance for fans
to have some input and feel like a part
of the team.”
There are plans for questions from
the audience while the showing is
being broadcast live from First Na-
tional Bank of De Leon. Each weekly
broadcast is scheduled for a 10:30
a.m. broadcast on Thursdays through
the length of the Bearcat’s season
including the week after their final
game.
“We’re excited to be able to bring
the Coach Grady West Show to De
Leon football fans,” Bank Vice Presi-
dent Mark Nowlin said. “This looks

That's where all those Odessa cars
are going." He pointed at the solid
stream of rocketing vehicles on the
Interstate.
Argument was fruitless, and as
his ticket was being completed
