year’s contest were Janice
Heath of Lubbock, now living
in Dallas, who is a flight
attendant for Southwest
Airlines; Martin Rochelle, an
Austin lawyer; and Tom
Watson, professor of drama
and speech at Tarleton State
University.
Loving cups were presented
to all contestants by Sherman
Sides, President of the PAM
Festival Association, Inc.

GOES TO CRISTAL KOONCE
Chosen by a panel of out-of-
town judges as the little Miss
De Leon title winner Monday
night on the festival stage was
Cristal Koonce, five-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ricky Koonce.
Judges for the contest were
Janice Heath of Dallas,
Martin Rochelle of Austin, and
Tom Watson of Stephenville
Last year’s winner, Jenny
Bunting, presented the new
Little Miss with flowers, and
Doyle Smith, De Leon Mayor,
crowned the winner.
Sherman Sides, president of
thia year’s festival committee,
presented loving cups to each
of the contestants.
Master of ceremonies was
Ronnie Nowlin of San Angelo.
First runner-up was Valerie
Patti, daughter of Mr and
Mrs. Don Patti, and second
runner-up was De Onza
Campbell, daughter of Mr.

Funeral services for Rom
Talamantes were held Friday
in Comanche.
Investigating the accident
was Department of Public
Safety Trooper Roy Kubiak.
Two of the accident victims
remained in the De Leon
Hospital on Monday.

of Dallas, one of the finest
fiddle players anywhere who
placed in the top ten in
Nashville in 1979 at the
invitational Grand Masters
Fiddle Contest; Ed Keith from
Stephenville, who has played
drums with many of the polka
bands around the country and
does a good job with country
musk: as well; Gene Williams
from Dublin picks a mean
baas and also does a fabulous
jobon vocals; Wayland Patton
is new to the band but not to
guitar picking. He is from
Stephenville and a great
guitar man with a fine voice.
To direct the show and
entertain will be two M.C.’s.
Both do the shows but not at
the same time, bitt a dedsion
could not be made of which to
do this show the best, so look
out, here they both come.

on August 6 (Thursday) at
1:00 p.m.
There is some real talent in
some of these small towns,
and these are the names and
hometowns of entertainers in
the Cross Timbers Country
Opry: James Hobbs from
Bangs; Kallco, a trio of young
women, Bangs; Carolyn
McKIUlp Rogers of
Desdemona; Rosanna
Martinez from Fort Worth;
Vickie and Nickie Nichols
from Cleburne; Country
Strings (The Griggs Family-
Blue Grass) from Arlington;
Merle and The Gospel Four
from Dallas.
These entertainers will be
backed by one of the finest
bands In the state of Texas.
The Opry Band has been
working together for2H years
and boasts professional
muairiaM who work together
beautifully. They are: Carroll
Parham of Stephenville,
steel guitar player and band
leader, who has played with
many of the bands around this
