The rainfall for 1989 is slightly
higher than 1988’s 25.95 inches but
well below 1986’s record of 50.81
inches.
According to records at the Corps
of Engineers Station at Proctor
Lake, the December total was only
.63 inches, bringing the 1989 total to
26.80 inches of rain.
The first six months of 1989
produced abundant rainfall but the

The high and low temperatures for

FOR JUSTICE
OF THE PEACE
L. T. Lewis has announced his
candidacy for county-wide Justice of
the Peace.
Lewis has served 11 years as
Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace and
nine years as Municipal Court
Judge. Lewis has a wife, Dalia,and
one son, Roger Lewis. “In these
trying economic times, we need a
man of experience, a man who has
lived and worked in this area for
over 50 years,” said Lewis.
On Saturday, the annual stock
show will be held in De Leon at the
show bam.
Make plans to attend and watch
these youngsters exhibit their
projects.
The county show is scheduled
for Monday and Tuesday, January
15-16.

The De Leon FFA and 4-H breeding beef heifers, and market Corey Hammon (two),
William Skaggs (two).
A total of 133 animals will be
exhibited, down from last year’s 153.
Entries include 10 market steers,
two beef heifers, three dairy heifers,
23 market lambs, three breeding
sheep, four breeding swine, and 88
market swine broken down as
follows: eight Chesters, 14 Durocs,
14 Crosses, 20 Spots, eight Poland
Chinas, seven Hampshires, seven
Yorkshires, and 10 Berkshires.

In mid-December, Brownwood
was struck by the flu-like illness,
reports Hare, and it then spread to

All the holidays are now over and
we can all get back on our regular
schedule and not have to wonder
what day of the week it is. They

CoOnty Junior Livestock Show will
be held Monday and Tuesday,
January 15-16, at the county show
bam in Comanche for Comanche
County 4-H and FFA members.
On Sunday, January 14, all entries
will begin unloading at 2 p.m., and
all animals must be in the bam by 5
p.m.
Monday’s show will begin at 8 a.m.

Re-Election
Congressman Charles W.
Stenholm has announced his plans to
seek a seventh term as
representative of the 17th District of
Texas.
The conservative Democrat from
Jones County said he wants a two-
year extension on his contract to
serve the people of West Texas. He
wants to continue strong support for
rural health care providers and a
1990 Farm Bill that insures
sufficient quantities of top quality
food. “Our system produces the

the world and we must keep it this
way,” Stenholm said.
