Unofficial Minutes Of
School Board Meeting
The De Leon Board of Education correspondence were discussed by
Bills and Loudermilk.
Bill Johnson, Elementary
Principal, gave his report. There
> were 12 fourth grade students and 18
1 fifth grade students that made the
1 honor roll the last six weeks grading
1 periods. There are 345 students
1 enrolled in elementary school.
Bill Odom gave his report. He
1 reported that the trip to Sea World
1 by the 7th and 8th grade students
1 was informative and successful.
1 Odom discussed the results from the
7th and 9th grades on the TEAMS
tests. Both grades had 100 percent
math mastery.
Nelda Priddy, Assistant Principal,
presented her report. There are 365
students in grades 6-12. Priddy
discussed areas of concern in the
highschool.
Mr. Bills presented his report. He
discussed the student attendance
period that was counted in De Leon
ISD. The day that was missed due to
the flood will not have to be made up.
Bills explained that there may be
possible flood relief money to help
with some of the repairs. The
summer projects that need to be
done were discussed.
It was moved by Sam Sparger
and seconded by Rodney Coan to
accept the resignation of Bobbie Lee
Reynolds and Cindy Abbey. Motion
carried unanimously.
It was moved by Rodney Coan and
seconded by Sam Sparger to offer a
contract to Christy Leigh Chester as
diagnostician for the Comanche
Special Service on a 11-month basis
and subject to the availability of
funds. Contract for the 1990-91
school year. Motion carried
unanimously.
It was moved by Rodney Coan and
seconded by Curtis Lesley to
adjourn the meeting at 12:06 a.m. on
May 16, 1990. Motion carried *3
unanimously.

and prayer was offered by Rodney
Coan.
It was moved by Rodney Coan and
seconded by Curtis Lesley to
approve the minutes of April 10,
1990, and May 7, 1990. Motion
carried unanimously.
The president opened the meeting
for nominations for the offices for
one year. It was moved by Sam
Sparger and seconded by Rodney
Coan to elect Franklin Loudermilk
as president of the board and that he
be elected by acclamation and that
the nominations cease. Voting for:
Sherman Sides, Sam Sparger, Curtis
Lesley, Rodney Coan, Ruby Park
and Charles Chupp. Franklin
Loudermilk abstained from voting.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Rodney Coan and
seconded by Ruby Park that Sam
Sparger serve as vice-president and
that nominations cease and he be
elected by acclamation. Voting for:
Sherman Sides, Curtis Lesley,
Rodney Coan, Ruby Park, Charles
Chupp, Franklin Loudermilk, and
Sam Sparger abstained from voting.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Curtis Lesley to elect
Sherman Sides as secretary of the
board and that nominations cease
and he be elected by acclamation.
Voting for: Sam Sparger, Curtis
Lesley, Rodney Coan, Ruby Park,
Charles Chupp and Franklin
Loudermilk. Sherman Sides
abstained from voting. Motion
carried.
Loudermilk was appointed as the
official legislative network member
to represent the board when needed.
Bill Odom, Secondary Principal,
presented Maria Segura a plaque as
Outstanding Student of the Month
for the Middle School. Maria is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jose
Segura. Odom also presented Todd
Whitehead a plaque as the
outstanding Student of the Month for
the high school. Todd is the son of
Weldon and Layla Whitehead.
Loudermilk presented Bill
Johnson a plaque of appreciation.
Mr. Johnson is retiring after 38
years of school service as teacher
and elementary principal.
Loudermilk also presented a
plaque of appreciation to the De
Leon Free Press for dedicated
service for the school.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Rodney Coan to accept
and approve the Tax Assessor-
Collector report for April as
presented. Motion carried
unanimously.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Curtis Lesley to accept
and approve the financial report and
payment of bills as presented by
Betty Terrill. Motion carried
unanimously.
Mr. Odom, Secondary Principal,
reported on the Effective Schools
Project. Carole Nowlin and Chuck
Jordon represented the De Leon
Schools in the Effective Schools
Project seminar. Nowlin and
Jordon explained the program to the
board members.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Rodney Coan to
approve the transfer students for the
1990-91 school year. Motion carried.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Rodney Coan to table
the school property insurance until
the board meeting of May 18,1980.
Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Rodney Coan to
approve the school calendar for the
1990-91 school year as presented by
Bills, Superintendent of Schools,
with changes. The calendar has the
first day of school as August 27,1990.
Motion carried.
It was moved by Rodney Coan and
seconded by Ruby Park to select the
Leon Petty Insurance Agency for the
student school insurance for 199041
school year,
unanimously.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Curtis Lesley to
purchase two Minolta copy
machines at the coot of 811,216.00
from Steven Company. The model
numbers will be EP5401 and EP4301.
Motion carried unanimously.

a one-year contract to Mark Beaty
as elementary principal at a salary
of 832,500 per year. Contract on an
11-month basis for school year 1990-
91 and subject to the availability of
funds. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Charles Chupp to
purchase the school insurance from
TASB with 82,500 deductible for
property and 81,000 deductible for
liability. Policy for the 1990-91
school year. Motion carried
unanimously.
It was moved by Sam Sparger and
seconded by Rodney Coan to adjourn
the meeting at 11:24 p.m. Motion
carried unanimously.
