The La Grange Jaycee Demons

J aycee Demon Field Sunday af-
ternoon, July 19, for the first in
the best two out of three games
in the semi-finals for the cham-
ionship of the league.
In the other semi-finals, the
Moulton Rockets and Weimar
Vets, who are tied for second
and third place, will meet.
The two winners of the semi-
final series will play a best
two of three games for die ch-
ampionship of the league.
Manager Les Blume said he
plans to use Robert Cooper as
his beginning pitcher. Cooper
has been doing some real good
pitching latley, the La Grange
mentor commented. Of course,
veterans Tilio Ruiz and Clinton
Bippert, will be ready to take
over should Cooper run into
trouble.
The game promises to be a
good one and fans are urged to
come out to Demon Field, one
of the coolest spots in town on
a Sunday afternoon.

An area meeting to discuss
livestock problems will be held
Thursday, July 16, at the San
Bernard Electric Co-op in Bell-
ville, according to Franklin
Brandt, president of the Fayette
County Farm Bureau.
Brandt urged all interested
livestock producers in the county
to attend the meeting which is one
4^ of eight being sponsored over the
" state by the Texas Farm Bureau.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m.

Main purpose of the meeting is
to evaluate the current livestock
situation and to give producers an
opportunity to give their ideas on
solving the various problems,

FUNDS FOR LOCAL
AIRSTRIP PAVING
The La Grange Lions Club
in their noon luncheon meeting
voted to undertake a project to
raise money to apply towards
paying for the paving of the
airstrip at Guenther’s Field.
This is a project which the La
Grange Chamber of Commerce
is currently recommending.
The Lions plan to raise funds
via a Radio Auction and will
kick-off the first phase of it
next Tuesday when all members
and their wives are urged to be
present at the noon luncheon-
meeting.
The Auction will beheld during
August and will probably run for
a week. Merchandise will be
sold to bidders by means of
telephone with headquarters to
be located in the downtown area.
Additional information on the
Lions Radio Auction will be made
xiblic as soon as it is available.

New Gym
The proposal to erect a new
high school auditorium and gym-
nasium with a seating capacity
of 1200 has been approved by the

The La Grange Chamber of
Commerce held a lively and in-
teresting meeting in the Ag Bldg.
Monday night- Reports on the
progress being made on the mun-
icipal airstrip indicated that the
lease contract for the Guenther
Field should be consummated
within the month. It is likely that
construction of the airstrip sh-
ould commence within a fort-
night. The Chamber will furnish

Fireman to School
Fayette County Farm Bureau
is sponsoring the attendance of
one volunteer fireman for this
county at the 35th annual Texas
Firemen’s Training School to be
held July 19-25 on the campus
of Texas A & M University at
College Station, according to Fr-
anklin Brandt, county president.
Volunteer firemen planning to jQ-p/^L Seml-
attend is Leo Jahn of the Sch-
ulenburg Volunteer Fire depart- I
ment.
The training school is being
conducted by the Engineering Ex-
tension Service in cooperation
with the Texas Education Ag-
ency. The school furnished up to
late training and information on
fire protection and prevention
as well as fire fighting techniq-
ues.
In addition to attending the re-
gular courses at the school, vol-
unteer firemen sponsored by
Farm Bureau will also attend two
special seminars July 20 and 21
dealing with rural fire protect-
ion.
Farm Bureau pays $52.50 of
the $57.50 tution for sponsored
members of local volunteer fire
departments. This covers lodg-
ing and meals for the one-week
course. Across the state, some
59 county Farm Bureaus are
co-operating with the Texas
Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance
Company of Waco in helping de-
fray expenses of 140 volunteer
firemen in attending the school.
Brandt pointed out that the
Farm Bureau carries on a year
around fire prevention and fire
