The office of County Judge of Johnson County has become a complicated
poation. The County Judge must assume the role of an administrator of the
* Commissioner’s Court which handles the county’s funds. The County Judge must
also handle all civil and criminal cases in its jurisdiction.
Last year 630 misdemeanor cases were disposed of. Many of these cases
required complicated jury trials and extensive knowledge of the law. The 63rd
legislature passed a new Penal Code which is now in effect. These cases require
•killed judicial knowledge that only a skilled lawyer can provide. Kit Cooke is the
only candidate in the race for County Judge who is an attorney. Kit Cooke has
practiced law in Johnson County over 4 years with extensive practice in the County •"
Court Kit Cooke is a member of the Star Bar of Texas, the American Bar Asso-
ciation and is presently serving as Pre»ident of the John«°n County Bar Association..
The State xJf Texas has • tWiplicated Probate Code, and in Johnson County
alone, severaWnundred thousand dollars a year are handled *by the County Judge.
This requires great expertise in the field of law so that people’s lives and estates
are not jeopardized. Kit Cooke is an attorney who has the knowledge, training,
and experience to handle all law suits in the County Court.
The state legislature also passed extensive changes in the juvenile law.
Presently all juvenile cases are handled in the County Court. However, by State -
Law — if a County Judge is not a lawyer, then all juvenile cases must be taken
away from the County Court and given to the District Court. Our District Court
is already over-crowded, and to place this additional burden on it would only com-
plicate matters and(c^st the county mudh money.
By electing KifCooJce as your County Judge all court proceedings would pro-
ceed normally, with no change in jurisdiction.
Johnson County is the 10th fastest growing county in the state and needs a
‘ County Judge who can grow with the communiy.
THE ONLY LAWYER IN THE RACE
