The News takes pleasure in
presenting to its readers this
week the name of Jas. R. Wiley
who has authorized his announce-
ment to appear in its columns as
a candidate for state senator from
this, the thirty first senatorial
district composed of Wise, Den-
ton and Montague counties. Mr.
Wiley entered the race for the
senatorship the first of the year,
and his many friends throughout
the district were highly pleased
when they learned of his announ-
cement for they recognize in him
all of the essential qualifications
of a good state senator.
Early in life Mr. Wiley chose i
law for his profession. He was
admitted to the bar some thir-
teen years ago, and by persist
ent and hard efforts and close at-
tention to business he has built
up a law practice and a name for
himself that many lawyers of
longer experience and far better
opportunities would be proud to
own. And whatever success he
has made in his chosen profes-
sion he owes to no one but him-
self—to his own indomitable en-
ergy and power of (rerseverance.

that Mr. Priddj- will be alright

restoration of his usual good
health before the public general-
energetic to want to rise in his
chosen profession, to want to
rise in the estimation of his
countrymen, and climb higher
and higher until he has reached
the topmost rung. This ambi-
tion is indeed a laudable one and
deserves to be encouraged and
rewarded. Such an ambition
and plucky nature lias Jas. R.
Wiley who now aspires to repre-
sent his district in the upper
house of the Texas legislature.
Being a true disciple of Jeffer-
son, a consistent democrat who
has never wavered in his allegi-
ance to his party or the princi-
ples promulgated by its founders,
Mr. Wiley will go before thepeo-
I pie of the entire district and dis-
cuss some very live and impor-
tant issues that are now confront
ing t he people, and then leave the
question with the democratic
voters for them to decide ujxin
his case.
Mr. Wiley has resided in Mon-
tague county for thirty-eight
years, or practically all of his
life, and has been a citizen of St.
Jo about twenty-two years. He
has nerved some three or four
terms an mayor of Saint Jo, and
his administrations have been
eminently successful. He han
