He told of the wonderful help and cooperation hoeand the committee received from
Texas A & T. College. Over was a request for help refused, and many tines comait-
toes were sent down to make surveys, and give an honest and unbiased opinion. 1r.
Eichor further said that few people r-alizo the benefits this county alone has re-
coived from this oxcellont institution, and said that they have never made a charge
for their services.
Mr. Eicher mentioned many 4-H Club projects, the soil conservation program, and many
other projects which have proved of invaluable help to the local farmers and dairy-
mcnl. He said that the coaaittee hoped to get someone to devote his entire timo to
working wita the farmers and dairymen, as other cities have. One city set up a
program for $50,000 to be spent between the county and city, and in the first your
the value increased from $450,000 to ;1,5o0.,000, and in five years had increased
to $,000, 000,
The Chamber of Comiorco was urged to continue supporting the Agriculture and Dairy-
in; Committee, and Hr. Eicher closed by thanking the gentlemen for calling upon him
for this report.
Dr. Calvin was then asked to tell the group a little about Mr. Either's activities.
He said that Mr. Eicher has given more of his life's hours to helping his fello-an
than anyone ho has known. He has given his tine to the Chamber, the Rod Cross, the
Rotary Club, the Selective Service Board, and numerous others. He further said ho
has never once hoard any criticism of either Pfr. Eicher or the groups with which he
has worked.
He then road the -ords on the testimonial scroll:
"Galvcston Chamber of Commerce pr :cents this test ins nial to W. A. Eicher in
recognition of twenty years as Chairman of rhe Agriculture and Dairying Count-
to> for continuous devotion to unselfish causes. For generous assistance to
our neighbors who live from the land. For substantial and lasting contribution
to the field of community service in Galveston County. As further recognition
of the outstanding contribution to the ..lfare of his fellarman and the develop-
eont of the agricultural and dairying interests he is elected Chairman Emritus
of this Committee. Adopted by the Board of Directors, August 4, 1950.' Signed
by the President, General manager, and Board of Directors.
Drt Calvin then shook hands with r. Eichcr, and presented the testimonial scroll
to him. r. Eichsr thanked the Board of Directors, saying that it meant more to
hi.m than anything he had ever received. The Directors applauded and congratulated

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
