Solid waste landfill will dominate
the Cherokee County Commissioners
Court meeting set for Thursday at 10
a m m the county courtroom in Rusk
The agenda prepared by County
Judge Orvan B Jones showed that
the commissioners will open bids for
chain link fencing and barbed wire
fencing
Bids on excavation of the pit will be
the major decision reached by the
court, it is expected
Judge Jones stated the pit will be 10
feet deep 45 feet wide at the top and
35 feet at the bottom, and will lie 550
feet in length It's estimated that in
excess of 80,000 yards of dirt will be
moved
Other action to be considered by the
court include
1 Airport improve,net ' to consider
additional plane hanger- The county
judge stated that several private
companies have requested permission
to construct the hangers for their
aircraft

The Foundation, a group of young
men from Rusk s First Baptist
Church, will conduct a youth-led
revival I riday. Saturday and Sunday
at Old Palestine Church in Alto,
according to the pastor. Rev Marion
Huckaoy
Jeff Carroll, a Rusk High School
senior and member of the group, w ill
be bringing the revival messages each
service. Other members of the
/o indation singing group are Greg
Womack and Tommy Corley, also
Rusk High School seniors: Craig
Anderson, a 1979 Rusk High School
graduate and student at Baylor Uni-
versity in Waco and Roger Hassell, a
1979 Rusk High School graduate
The group will fie singing each
service. Services will be held at 7 pm.
Friday, 7 p m Saturday and at 11:00
am Sunday morning
Youth fellowship will be held follow
ing each service A chili supper is
planned for Friday night with refresh-
ments served following the Saturday
night service A covered dish lunch-
eon for the entire congregation and
guests will be held following the
Sunday morning service

State Hospital to be used for benefit of

High School Girls Sextette
Mrs Verna Roddy, president, will
officiate at the meeting She has
asked the members to aid in a
research project of early Texas
The City of Wells has recently hired
a new city marshal He is V L
Butch McClelland and his most
recent job was with the Polk (ounty
Sheriff s Department
McClelland is a graduate ot Kilgore
College where he studied law
enforcement He has had five years
experience in police work and has
previously been with the Kountze
Police Department, the Jasper
County Constables Office and the
Woodville PI)
Prior to that, he was in the navy
where he received training in
weapons and self defense
He and his wife. Connie, and their
three children- Chrisfv 5. Daniel. 3
and Angela Jo. 4 weeks. are now
living in Wells
McClelland said that he is working
toward good unified traffic control
and is seeking to modernize the police
depai tment
The Cherokee County Heritage
Association will meet Monday
evening at Fat Boy s Restaurant in
Rusk A board meeting will be held at
6 p m and dinner will be served at
6 30 p m
