I FFA Week, February 17-24
The Mount Vernon FFA Chapter will join with 900 other
I chapters of Texas in observance of FFA week during the week
I of Feb. 17-24.
The local chapter la one of the most active in the area and
I many of thir activities can be credited to the enthusiam of Chap-
I ter Advisor Neal Solomon.
| In recent years they have furnished various Area VI offi-
cers and their chapter sweetheart was named area sweetheart on
one occasion and she competed for state sweetheart.
Members of the local chapter must have a farm program and
many of these members make enough money from their farm pro-
I grams while in high school to assure themselves a College educa-
tion.
In the classrooms of the high schools of Texas, vocational
agriculture students, study scientific agricultural practices as a
part of their regular high school curriculum. When the school day
is over, all to not finished for the vocational agriculture student,
because he to responsible for his supervised farming program
which to supervised by his vocational agriculture teacher.
Kf Last year 43,645 FFA members in Texas cleared over four
million dollars from 100,000 head of livestock, 41,054 acres of
crops, and nearly a million head of poultry.
Joe Borden, local FFA member, was recently nominated to
represent the Daingerfield District as candidate for Area II FFA
president.
The area banquet will be held in Sulphur Springs next Tues-
day night at which time area officers and area sweetheart will be
selected. •
Our congratulations and good wishes go to the local FFA
" “'er, their advisor and FFA members over the nation during
observance of FFA week.
