Peace Corps
Sends Speaker
Peggy McNally, a represen-
tative of the Peace Corps, will
be on the Howard Payne cam-
pus today. Miss McNally is a
returned Peace Corps volunteer
who served two years in the
Philippines.
Before becoming a Peace
Corps volunteer, Miss McNally
worked as an English teacher
in York Junior High of Den-
ver, Colo. In 1962 she volunteer-
ed for service in the corps and
was sent to Cebu Normal Col-
lege, Cebu City, the Philippines.
She remained there, teaching
English Literature and methods
of teaching English by the oral
guide method, until. 1964. She
also assisted in updating guide
books used by student teachers.
In addition to her profession-
al work, Miss McNally has di-
rected six one-act plays, includ-
ing one written by a student
She has been advisor to the
school newspaper literary mag-
azine and she coached the de-
bating team for inter-collegiate
competition.
Miss McNally will be provided
with a space in the Student Cen-
ter to talk with interested stu-
dents about the Peace Corps
Program.

Dads To Be
Honored Af
Football Game
Athlete's Appreciation Week
will reach its climax tomorrow
when Howard Payne celebrates
its annual Dad's Day, a day set
aside to honor the fathers of
HPC athletes.
A student committee headed
by Mildred Peveto, public rela-
tions chairman of the Howard
Payne Student Senate, has
planned the week to honor the
athletes and! the day to honor
the fathers.
The committee, composed of
Miss Peveto, Traditions Chair-
men Lucian Stholer and Jane
Bloom and student members,
Theda Mauldin and Mitch Wil-
son, has sent letters of invita-
tion to all the athlete's dads,
an announcement will be made
over the public address system
recognizing the fathers of all
the athletes at the Sam Hous-
ton State game Saturday night.
Dads of the football players
will receive the special honor
of sitting next to the field dur-
ing the game. They will wear a
tag indicating the number' of
their son.
After Athlete's Appreciation
Week closes, two more spirit
building activities are sched-
uled. The first is Freshman
Dress-Up Day which occurs on
Monday morning. Traditionally
the day ends at noon with a;
parade in the downtown area
of Brownwood. All students in-
terested in the event should
read the rules included in the
college handbook.
Later the same day, at 6:00
p.m., the Senior Slave Sale will
be held on the lawn of Veda
Hodge Hall. Eoyce Hendricks,
HPC senior, will be auctioneer
for the sale, and according to
senior class officers Jana Bloom
and Ronnie Nowlin, "only heal-
thy, strong upperclassmen will
be offered for sale." All pro-
ceeds from the sale will become
a part of the senior class
treasury.
Society Names
New Officers
Alphi Chi, junior and senior
honor society, met Tuesday at
7:00 p.m. to elect a treasurer
and reporter. Glynda Byerly,
Coleman senior, was named
treasurer and Melva Izaguirre,
Weslaco senior, was named sec-
retary-reporter.
President Kathy Lasater told
the club that juniors and sen-
iors who meet the qualifications
will be asked to join Alpha Chi
in the near future.
Mrs. Lela Spencer, associate
professor of history, presented
the program which was an ex-
planation of the purposes of the
club.
FACULTY RECEPTION - The {acuity held its annual reception for
new members Sunday, Oct. 4 in the home of Dr. C. E. McCarver,
administrative vice president of Howard Payne. Among the new
faculty members greeted by Dr. and Mrs. McCarver was Kenneth
Locke, right, assistant professor of physics.

attended a reception honoring
new faculty members of How-
ard Payne College, given Sun-
day afternoon by Dr. C. E. Mc-
Carver, HPc administrative
vice president, and Mrs. Mc-
Carver, 761 Main Avenue.
Assisting Dr. and! Mrs. Mc-
Carver in welcoming guests
were Dr. Guy D. Newman, HPC
president, and Mrs. Newman.
Dr. Forrest Agee, Howard
Payne's academic dean, and
Mrs. Agee, were in the receiving
line with new faculty members
and their husbands and wives.
The new faculty members in
the line included Ruth Cole, as-
sistant professor of languages;
Dick Collins, sports publicist
and instructor of journalism;
Dr. Gordon Creel, head! of the
department of biology and act-
ing chairman of the division of
science and mathematics; Dr.
Roland Dove, head of the
English department and chair-
man of the division of human-
ities; James L. Duderstadt, act-
ing head of the department of
speech and associate professor
of speech; James C. Everett,
Jr., assistant ' professor of
mathematics.
Also, Dr. Dorothy Harrison,
assistant professor of lan-
guages; Clarence Hildebrand,
instructor of chemistry; Ken-
neth N. Locke, assistant pro-
fessor of physics; E. E. Phil-
lips, associate professor of
languages and head of the de-
partment of languages; Will
Reavis, instructor of music and
1 acting band director; Robert L.
Sartain, associate professor of
mathematics; Mrs. Mike Shaw,
instructor of art, and Mrs.
James Shields, assistant librar-
ian.
Refreshments were served in
the dlining room from tables
laid with lace covers and de-
corated with arrangements of
flowers in golden autumn
shades, flanked with green can-
dles. Silver and crystal appoint-
ments completed the settings.
Fall floral arrangemnets were
used throughout the receiving
rooms.
Choir To Hold
Annual Clime
The annual Howard Payne
College Choral Clinic for high
school choirs will be held Sat-
urday, October 17, It has been
announced by George Baker,
head of the college's music de-
partment.
Guest clinician will be Ivan
Baugh, associate professor of
music and choral director of
Howard Payne.
Currently working toward the
Ph.D degree at the University
of Texas, Baugh has studied
under such choral musicians as
Peter Wilhousky, John Finley
Williamson, Lara Hoggard, Wal-
ter Ehret and Hugh Ross. He
has been an adjudicator for the,
Interscholastic League contests
and church music festivals In
Texas, Florida, North Carolina
and Mississippi.
