promptly for 8:30 o’clock. The speak
er is Mr. F H. Senor. special repre-
sentative of tile United States tresis-1
ury department Mr. Seuor has spok-
en in practically all the large cities
of the North and East and for the past
few weeks has been actively engaged
in Texas. Just now he is working in
the interest of the war savings stamps'
campaign in Texas. His purpose in
addressing the citizens of Hay City
is not especially that of war savings.;
but more directly for a thorough un-
derstanding of the purposes of our
government and of the treasury de-
partment In the various loans that arc
put on.
The speaker is well informed mid in
a position to discuss the recent allied
drive which has met with such suc-
cess. His message is authoritative,

ing the counties of Matagorda. Ft.
Bend and Wharton, was called to or-

a. in. by W. F. Pack, county superin-
tendent of Matagorda County. Over
300 teachers from the three counties
mentioned and a part of Colorado

Judge John F. Perry, county Judge
,of Matagorda County, delivered a very
able address of welcome and in the
most pleasing manner assured
teachers of the heartiest welcome

Prof A W. Birdwell of the South-
Texas Normal. San Marcos, delivered
; a very able lecture on tho "A B C”s of
| American Citizenship" This lecture
was intended for a message of Impor-
i tanco to school patrons as well as
1 teachers and proved to be a master-
piece, although only a few of the pa-
i trons heard it.
I Dr John- C. Muerman. rural school
specialist for the United States bureau
of education, gave an interesting talk
on food conservation, illustrating the
many excellent points in his discus-
sion by timely references to condi-
tions in China and Japan. Dr. Muer-
man has traveled extensively, is a ver-
satile talker and exceedingly well
