the plan for next year. Senior
students will receive 60 cents per

their present wage scale.
This plan places TLC’s pay rate
in line with the rates of other
Texas colleges.

New Wage Scale Set For Students;
Training, Ability To Be Determinants
A new student wage scale will
go into effect for the school year
of 1958-59. This approach will
place emphasis on training and
ability for the job rather than on
class status.
The new plan was approved on
the basis of surveys and studies
of other Texas colleges. Most col-
leges paid 40-55 cents per hour
during the ’57-’58 school year. The
majority of colleges studied oper-
ated on a job classification pro-
cedure.
The new plan classifies jobs into
eight categories: instructional,
skilled labor, managerial, secre-
tarial, supervisory, bus drivers,
dishwashers, and a general group.
Instructional jobs which include
research, lab assistants, and
graders, and the skilled labor,
which includes carpenters, painters
and plumbers will pay from 75
cents to one dollar per hour.
Secretaries with proven respon-
sibilities and experience, super-
visory workers as in certain
librarian positions, and the head
bus driver will receive 75 cents.
Managers will also receive 75
cents an hour in addition to their
managerial pay.
Sixty-five cents is the allotted
