Shabbat Shirah means “the Sabbath of Song,” and it takes place each year
when we read about the miraculous deliverance of the Israelites after they
crossed the Sea of Reeds. This year Hazzan Sheldon Feinberg will join with
Hazzan Propis throughout our beautiful Shabbat Morning Service on Satur-
day, January 22, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. In addition to each cantor’s individual
participation, Hazzanim Propis and Feinberg will join in the singing of duets

One of the world’s most prominent and prolific schol-
ars of Second Temple history, Dr. Lee Levine heads the Dinur
Research Center for the Study of Jewish History at Hebrew
University in Jerusalem and is a professor of Jewish history
and archeology at Hebrew University. He has published ten
books on Second Temple-era history and archeology, co-di-
rected excavations at Caesarea and directed excavations at
the Horvat Ammudim synagogue site.
Dr. Levine received his Ph.D. from Columbia Univer-
sity and rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological
Seminary.
