The regular semi-monthly meeting
of the board of directors ol tile Bay
City t’liamber of Commerce met in
the consultations room ol Hie First
State Bank at 7:30 last evening.
Present: President John Suther-
land, Vice-President Pul Thompson.
Directors Henry Rugeley, Dr S. A
Foote, P. G. Secrest and G. A. Moore.
Visitors present. Mrs. Chas. Dickey,
Mis, Ed. Kilbride, Mrs. F. 11. Jones
and Mrs Will Stinnett The lady
visitors came by previous appoint-
ment as representatives of the Fed-
erated Missionary Society to take up
with the Chamber of Commerce the
matter of pushing a tree planting
campaign in Bay City. Mrs. Stinnett
spoke tor the Federated Missionary
Society, which she explained, is <oni-
1 posed of a co-ordinating committee
made up from the ladies' circles of
tile various Protestant Fhlli’chvs of
the city. Mrs Jones came as a rep-
resentative of tlie Bay City Library
Association. The meeting being call
e<| to order by President Sutherland,
tile ladies were called upon at
and Mrs. Stinnett laid before
board the plans outlined by the Fed
eralion of local charities for a sys-
tematic tree planting campaign to
begin at once. She asked the co-
operation and assistance of the
Chamber of Commerce, especially in
tile way of publicity, and explained
that as Arbor day would occur in
the third week of tills month she
thought it advisable to designate the
third week in February as tree plant-
ing week and assured the board that
if such a date were named and the
chamber would get actively behind
the movement the ladies would look
to Hie matter of having their hus-
bands buy the trees in time and at-
tend to all other incidental prepara-
j lions in such a way as to insure a
j general city-wide success of tree
I planting. On motion by Mr. Secrest.
; and duly seconded by Mr Rugeley,
and carried unanimously by the vot-
ing board. Mrs Stinnetts proposition
was indorsed and the secretary In-
structed to proceed at once to line up
with the ladles jn the matter of pub.
iicity.

publicity looking into the exportation
of Brahmas from this county to Mex-
ico had resulted.
Here the secretary also reported
on Itis recent trip to Kingsville and
Robstown, where ho went to straight-
en out a tangle which occurred over
u carload of sweet potatoes which
had been rejected after being shipped
by the .Matagorda County Sweet Po

port brought out that there would
likely lie some severe criticism of the
chamber owing to its participation in
the sweet potato shipping, account

this car of sweet potatoes was sac-

handled the matter at the other end

nancing. it wa moved by Mr G. A.
Moore, and duly seconded, that the
chairman appoint a committee to
work w ith a committee from tlie I i-
brnry Association, to make a thor-
ough canvass of the citizenship to
the end or raising about $500 to
maintain the Library for another
year and with which to purchase new
books. Here tlie ladies being satis,
lied with tlie reception accorded and
tlie results of their conference witli-
drew. carrying with them the assur-
ance Bist tlie chamlier was witli them
in these ami all oilier laudible pub-
lic movements. .
On tin' previous suggestion of the
ladies, tlie City Council bad been in-
vited to attend tlie board meeting in
order that this representative body
of interested citizens might carry the
conference on into a discussion of
tile proposed and much needed street
drainage. Tlie council was repre-
sented by Mr I. 7. Moreland and
Mi. .1 Sisk aside from the mayor
ami other aidermen who are also
members of the Chamber of Com-
merce directorale. There being so
much other business to come before
the botird the street drainage matter
was omitted, to be taken up al some
later time
Here tlie secretary raised the -ques-
tion of tlie proposed removal of the
chamlier headquarters from Its pres-
ent upstairs offices to a spacious
ground floon location. This matter
was thoroughly discussed and on mo-'
mlttee consisting of Mr. George II I
Burke, Mr. Rugeley, Mr Moreland'
and the secretary was appointed to
make immediate investigation ns to
where a suitable location could be
found, tlie probable rental costs, etc.,
and to report back at (be next regu-
lar board meeting
