C
T.N. Carswell.
Hon. Martin Dies
Lufkin, Texas.
My dear Congressman Die®:
I note from the press you intend to run for
the Senate seat to be vacated by Senator Daniel. I
had a 1/etter a few days ago from a friend saying that
-"c. orrow of ouston also intended to run. I think
it a political tragedy bound to result in a loss of
lasting significance to Texas that th® two of you should
contest against each other. One must lose.
I have supported you all of your political
life. Through the Legion I gave to you every ounce of
strength I could muster to support the original un-Amer-
ican Activities C mmittee you headed. I supported you
when you offered tor the Senate some years ago. Like-
wises I have voted and worked for you as Cnngress^an-at-
Large. But as between you and Mr. Morrow, with the sit-
uation in Texas as it is, I shall have to help Mr. Morrow,
and do all I can to bring about his election.
Congressman Dies, Texas needs you both - DIES
and 10B - you where you are, in the House, and Morrow
in the Senate. My, what a team you’d bet You are already
in the House. In my opinion it would be, Congressman
Dies, to your everlasting credit as a statesman and patriot,
if you could see you way clear to give you full and unqual-
ified support to Mr. MowofM I wish you would.
with good wishes always, X am,
Cordially, your friend,
