MAYOR THOMPSON
TICKET LEADS IN
ILL. ELOONS
By Th. Associated Press.
New York, Sept. 15.—Oswald Gar-
rison Villard announced tonight that
one hundred representative Americans
had accepted the invitation of his mag-
azine, The Nation, to constitute a non-
partisan commission to sift charges
of atrocities in Ireland made against
one another by the British government
and the Sinn Fein. The announce-
ment says the committee of one hun-
dred on Ireland, as it will be known,
feels that some neutral action is nec-
essary in order to preserve Anglo-Sax-
on friendship and prevent the spread
of ill will.
Referring to Anglo-American rela-
tions the invitation says one grave
result of the present situation is “the
rapid growth of anti-British feeling,
which seriously threatened an un-
speakable calamty of war between the
United States and Great Britain.
The program of the committee is
not fully developed but its sponsors
suggest that the British government,
Sin Fein and others be asked to pre-
sent such evidence of violence or
wrongdoing as they possess. The
committee, it is said, will designate a
small commission to hear testimony
and “make a thorough and impartial
report.” The committee plans to be-
gin sessions in Washington in October.
