For the first time in history,
AAllen will have its own ambulance
service beginning Monday.
Fire Chief Ron Gentry said the
new ambulance purchased by the
city will be ready for operation by
early next week. Previously,
„Allenites had depended on Mc-
WKinney and Plano for the service.
“We’re ready to go,” Chief
Gentry said. He noted that some
20 members of the Allen Volun-
teer Fire Department are qualified
to work on the ambulance.
The ambulance will be staffed
with volunteers, as is the fire
department.
“Since we’ll only have 1
ambulance in town,- the vehicle
will be for emergency use only,”
Chief Gentry emphasized. “If we
receive a call that is not- an
emergency, we will be forced to
refuse service.”
The city council has placed a set
figure of $35 per call. The person
requiring the service will be billed
by city hall. Extra charges also
are planned for oxygen and mile-
age.
