Herewith letters and dividend checks as follows:
Harris-Fort Bend Telephone Company
Imperial Sugar Company
Sugarland Industries
United States National Company
There is no H. Kenpner dividend at this end of the year. We
did pay $2.00 per share in June.
Personally, I think it of extreme importance to put the H.
Kempner Trust in such a liquid position that any obligation it has
undertaken (or must undertake) to supply needed funds for the payment
of taxes of the living or dead should be fulfilled. I don't know
that all of us here share my regard for the attainment of an ex-
tremely liquid, even if somewhat less profitable, condition.
I guess individual attitudes reflect the influence of ordinary
human nature. The things that are very profitable we are reluctant to
sell. Those that are unprofitable are difficult to sell. 6o we de-
velop a reluctance on the part of some of us to make temporary con-
cessions for prospective eventual benefits.
