The initial meeting of the
Baptist Student Union was held
in the speech auditorium Sept.
21.
President Harold Abney, soph-
omore student from Ropesville,
called the meeting to order and
introduced the B. S. U. student
director for the coming year,
Claude Dollins.
Claude outlined the projects
for the coming year. Included
in his outline was a car wash
which was heid Sat., Oct. 3.
The proceeds from this project
will be used to defray the ex-
penses of the state convention,
which will be held the weekend
of Oct. 9-11, in Waco.
An introduction of the remain-
ing officers followed. They are:
vice-president Sue Kelsay; mus-
ic chairman Rita Colley; devot-
ional chairman Gail Ballow; and
mission schairman Cheryl Read.

Elects Officers

Mike Kitten, a freshman stu-
dent from Slaton, was elected
prisedent of the Newman Club
at their first meeting. The New-
man Club is an organization of
Catholic students.
Elected as vice-president was
Robert Decker, freshman from
Pen. Other officers were as
follows: secretary - treasurer,
A coke party was given in
the old lounge of Sue Spencer
Hall, Sept. 23, by the Koshare
Organization for the purpose of
acquainting the girls on the
South Plains College campus
with the service-social club.
Sponsors are Miss Bell and
Miss Wiswall. The president of
the organization is Kelly Scheel,
a sophomore from Welch; and
and the vice-presidnet is Linda
Brown, a sophomore from Lev-
elland. Other officers are to be
elected at a later date.
Koshare will meet the second
and fourth Wednesdays of every
month at 5:00 p.m. in Sue Spen-
cer Hall (old lounge) for any
girl interested in joining.

Scott Roberson, a sophomore
from Seminole, was elected vice-
president of the Student Coun-
cil of South Plains College.
Scott edged out Curtis Dick-
sen for this position; Scott
was president of the freshmen
class and freshmen favorite last
year.
Last year, he had well over
a three point average and was
a very active member in sev-
eral organizations.

dent of the Student Council, a
member of the FHA, and was
on the honor roll.

Elects Officers
Elected to the office of presi-
dent of the Creative Arts Club
is Gene Robertson, a freshman
student from Odessa. Gene was
chosen by members of the club
at the meeting on Monday,
Sept. 28.
Barbara Jackson, a fresh-
man from Levelland, was nam-
ed vice-president; Pat Cunnig-
ham, a freshman from Little-
field, was elected to the office
of secretary-treasurer; and De-
wane Franklin, a sophomore stu-
dent from Seminole, was chosen
as reporter.
Other members of the organi-
zation are Jackie Stafford,
Donna Lee Deerman, and Es-
ter Lambert.

Paul Dobbs, a sophomore
from Fort Worth, was elected
president of Frazier Hall at the
club’s first meeting Sept. 29.
Other officers elected include:
vice - president Jimmie Don
Green, a sophomore from Mata-
dor, secretary - treasurer De-
wayne Franklin, a sophomore
from Seminole, and reporter
Ronny Baker, a sophomore
from Seminole.
Ronny Jones, a sophomore
from Slaton, was elected sear-
gent at arms of the long wing,
and Dale Jeffreys, a freshman
from Graham, will be seargent
at arms of the short wing.
Frazier Hall meetings will be
held the first Monday of each
month at 7 00 p.m.
Play Slated
By Group
The Drama Club held its sec-
ond meeting of the semester
this past Monday in room 16
of the Fine Arts Building.
Bertha, the Typewriter Girl
was chosen as the first play to
be presented to the public and
will be put on sometime in Nov-
ember.
Anyone interested in trying out
for a part may do so. Mr. Kobb,
instructor in drama, is sponsor
for the Drama Club and will ,
answer any questions concern-
ing the play.
