resident of Mills County, passed
away Tuesday afternoon in San
Saba Funeral services were
conducted in the First Metho-
dist Church of Goldthwaite
Wednesday at 4 p m
Lee R Tesson, D W. Newton
and Ray Akins have been re-
elected for the coming school
year by the board of education,
it was announced this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Welch
have announced the marriage
of their daughter, Janetha to
Jackie H. Woodard of Arcadia,
Louisiana, Tuesday, February
23. The wedding was solmenized
at the Calvary Baptist Church
in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Major and Mrs. Richard H.
Burgess of San Antonio were
honored on their 90th wedding
anniversary. Sunday afternoon,
February 7, with a reception
given by their children in the
home of their son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Paul
J. Burgess.
Mr. and Mrs Burgess were
married In Goldthwaite but
have lived in San Antonio for a
number of years.
Mr and Mrs Willie Groth
celebrated their 25th wedding
anniversary Sunday, March 7.
at their home The Groths were
married March 8, 1929. Their
daughter. Ruth and Charles
Gore were also married March
6, 1954

City water was cut off on
Sixth Street Wednesday morn-
ing just before noon when a
road grader accidentally came
in contact with a safety cut-off
in the main. The water was cut
off about three hours in the
afternoon while the city water
department made difficult re-
pairs on the damaged pipe.
This week a top covering of
black soil has been placed on
the local athletic field. The
athletic council has engaged
county commissioner Oma
Shaw and the county equipment
for doing this work
Bermuaa grass will be planted
on the field immediately so that
a good turf may be acquired
during the summer
A. H. Smith was re-elected
superintendent of the Goldth-
waite schools by the trustees of
the Goldthwaite independent
School District at their meet-
ing Saturday.
Rev. George Steinman of San
Saba and Rev. Jack Hester of
Star have assisted Rev F J.
Brucks in teaching a training
school at the Methodist Church
this week.
Mrs. John Schooler, Mrs Paul
McCullough, Mrs Jacob Saylor,
Mrs. V. C. Bradford, Mrs W. p
McCullough Mrs C A. Eacott,
and Mrs Marvin Hodges repre-
sented the Art and Civic Club at
the Club Institute held In San
Saba last Thursday.
Ray Featherston and Mr. Hig-
ginbotham of Los Angeles, Cal-
ifornia, are spending this wdek
in the Henry Featherston home,
before sailing fo Lima, Peru,
March 20, whes they will re-
main for three years for an oil
company
Mr. and Mrs Wilson Nelson
and Mrs. Christine Daniels of
Long Beach, California, spent
Saturday in the Carl Feather-
ston home. Mrs O V. Daniels
of Brownwood and Mrs H S.
Casey of Brownwood also spent
Saturday with their mother,
Mrs. J S. Chesser in this home.

community has the sympathy

death of his brother, Mr. J. T.
Smith, which occurred at Colo-
rado City Sunday
Miss Maggie Pierson returned
to her home hHamilton the
first of the week,after a visit
to Mrs. John Little, Mrs. J. D.
Wallace and other friends in
this city.
Henry Martin and his wife,
together with his son, Fred and
Mrs Schweining left Monday
for Kerrville and other points
to visit relatives and it is likely
Mrs. Schweining will remain in
that section several months.
They made the trip in Mr. Mar-
tin s automobile
Dr Campbell has purchased a
new Ford automobile from the
local agent, J. N. Weatherby.
J W Mason, merchant and
postmaster of Center City, was
among the business visitors in
this city the first of the week.
Rev. L. A. Bagley, who moved
from this city to the Trigger
Mountain community last week,
this week ordered the Eagle
sent to him via the free deliv-
ery route from Mullin.
S D. Ponton, the new mer-
chant of Ratler, was here Mon-
day to place an order for his
supply of business stationery.
He recently moved to Ratler
from San Saba and is doing a
nice business
Dr James Gooch of Indian
Gap was a business visitor in
this city the first of the week.
H E. Dalton, J W. Smith and
Ben Forehand were among the
cattlemen who attended the
convention at Fort Worth.
