Vandals to win the right to com-
pete in the regional tournament in
Denton Saturday.
Dean Sinclair sparked the 14AA
champion Tigers with 12 points,
while Joe Tom Farmer also hit 12
points for the District 13AA cham-
pion Vandals.
The Vandals led through most
of the first half and held a slim
17-13 advantage at the intermis-
sion. However, the Tigers took the
lead at the end of the third quar-
ter by utilizing an all-court press
game.
The Vandals came back to tie
it up, but Mount Vernon domi-
nated the final six minutes of the
battle to ice the victory.

The child was struck by the car
as he attempted to overtake his
brothers, Larry, 12, and Allan
Ray, 1, who were walking along
the highway on the opposite side
of the road from Kenneth.
Kenneth was taken to the Athens
hospital by Riley West, a motor-
ist, who happened along at the
time of the accident. He was later
transferred to Alexander Hospital
in Terrell and then carried to
Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
The youth is believed to have
suffered head injuries of a seri-
ous nature.
1900, at the age of 39 years Mr.
Morris died at Wallace of pneu-
monia. at which time several
other men were claimed in death
by the same disease. His widow
showed extreme courage and
strength of character and good
judgement as she took over the
management of the farm he left
her and their nine children, the
oldest of which then was 14. One
child. David, was born in Novem-
ber following the death of his
father.
Besides her husband. Mrs. Mor-
ris was preceded in death by a
daughter, Martha, who passed
away in February, 1937.
Although Mrs. Morris had been
blind for many years she retained
a growing interest in the world
about her and the current affairs
of the day.

been living in Dallas for the past
four years. Prior to her residence
there she made her home in Can-
ton and the Wallace community,
where she reared her family of
four daughters and six sons.
Mrs. Morris was born Emma
Rebecca Boyett in Georgia on
September 24, 1867. She was unit-

Scout Dinner
Dr. Gough Alexander of Ter-
rell, will be the principal speaker
when the Van Zandt district Boy
Scout committee has its annual
dinner March 9.
The meeting this year will be
held in Van at the American Le-
gion Hall. Last year the meeting
was held in Grand Saline. The
American Legion Auxiliary will
serve the dinner starting at 7
p. m.
Dr. Alexander has been active
many years in Boy Scouting. He
is now chairman of the Kaufman
County Boy Scout committee.
Also he is an executive board
member of Circle Ten Council,
Boy Scouts of America.
Scouters and their wives are
expected to attend from Myrtle
Springs, Wills Point, Edgewood,
Canton, Grand Saline and Van.
Jim Robinson of Canton is dis-
trict chairman and C. H. Golmon
of Van is district commissioner.
All of the scout leaders, scout-
masters, Explorer advisors, Cub-
masters, Den mothers, district
committee members will be rec-
ognized for the work they are do-
ing for the boys of their com-
munity through the Boy Scout
