The 1987 St. Mary's soccer
team kicked off its season
Sunday, August 30, by beating
the Rattler alumni soccer
team 4-1. This season opener
was the tenth annual alumni
match. The alumni team
consisted of former St. Mary's
soccer players who get
together once a year for this
particular game. Opposing
the alumni team was the
current Rattler team.
The first goal of the game
came when an alumni
defensive fullback passed the
ball back to his own goal

better year
By Stephanie Truesdale
Sports Editor________________
The Lady Rattlers were
somewhat shaky last year,
finishing right at the .500
mark with a record of 16-16.
Unfortunately, after the two
losses at Texas Lutheran
College, the Lady Rattler's
chances at winning the
conference championship
were destroyed.
Even though the season
did not go as they wanted,
there were two Lady Rattlers
that received post-season
honors. Lori Goertz and
Linda Gladney both earned
All-District and All-
Conference honors.
This season the Lady
Rattlers, coached by Pat
Throop, hope to improve
over last year's record. There
are three freshmen that have
joined the team. "The team
seems to have a lot of spirit.
Even though we lost our first
game, we did good especially
because we had the opening
night jitters," said senior
Goertz.
