Jorge Mendoza-Powell is
a Rattler who literally
enjoys life in the fast lane.
A St. Mary’s senior
majoring in economics,
Mendoza-Powell placed
third in the Prostock
division of the recently held
San Antonio Grand Prix.
With a mere two weeks
notice to prepare, Mendoza-
Powell gathered enought
sponsors to enter the first
Nissan Grand Prix race.
"Not long ago I broke my

lanky racer attended Super
Bike School in California,
where he entered several
races.
Mendoza-Powell is
planning to continue
riding his wave of success
by racing in New Orleans
on October 18.
"This finish gave me
more confidence in myself
and I want to keep going
forward while I have the
opportunities."
Mendoza-Powell is hop-
ing to round up enough
sponsors for the New
Orleans race.
Currently, Powell is racing
a 1985 Volkswagon Volk
with 140 horse power.
"I was very proud to be
representing St. Mary’s. I
had a lot of friends and
people from St. Mary’s that
supported me," added the
proud racer. "It was a
dream come true for me."
