The Christian faith was found-

Many people, including such
noted theologians as Paul Til-
lich and Rudolf Bultmann, find
themselves unable to accept
this as a literal statement of
historical fact
proceeding on the assumption
that it is impossible for a dead
person actually to rise again,
they look upon the Resurrection
as a mvth or symbol of a pure-
ly inward, spiritual experience
in which Christ’s disciples be-
came convinced that he was
still among them as a living
presence.
This "demythologizing" inter-
pretation of the New Testament
has great appeal for people who
want to believe that God re-
