Carolyn Herff Kennon, left, and Juanita Herff Chipman are identical twins who recently celebrated their 90th
birthday. After the death of her husband, Kennon moved back to the family ranch in Boerne to be near her sister.

BOERNE - When Juanita Herff
Chipman and Carolyn Herff Kennon
tell you that their vibrancy at age 90 is
due to "good genes," they may be on to
something.
The two women have the same
genes. They are identical twins.
But that paints only part of the
picture. Chipman and Kennon also at-
tribute their good health and longevityto fresh air, country living, forsaking
grudges and eating right.
And to each other.
After more than 50 years of living
apart, a widowed Kennon left her ad-
opted city of Nashville, Tenn., in 2005
and returned to the Herff family ranch
in Boerne to be with her twin, who has
long lived here with her husband, Guy
Chipman Jr. Most afternoons nowa-
days, the women swim together in an
outdoor pool on a plateau surroundedby trees; most evenings, they cook
dinner together and enjoy the wooded
scenery from their covered porches.
Still a glint in their eyes, the nona-
genarians who long ago tricked teach-
ers by switching places will be fea-
tured in an Oct. 11 art show by Alamo
Heights portrait photographer Will
Langmore. For the show, to be held at
Langmore Studio on Broadway, Lang-
more has photographed identical-twin
sets from age 6 months to the 90-year-
old Herff twins. (Full disclosure:
My 6-year-old twin daughters were
among Langmore's subjects.)
