The long journey to the Texas
All-Slate Choir begins in the fall of
each school year, with 30,000
students auditioning for District
Choir. As the students then
progress through Region, Area, and
All-State auditions, the level of
competition and musicianship
increases. In the end, only 180 of
the initial 30,000 are chosen for the
All-State Choir. It is an
accomplishment for any school in
the state to have one student
succeed into the choir, Alvin High
School placed four students.
Under the direction of Brenda
Music, Choir Director, the
following students have worked
long and hard to achieve this goal:
Junior, Victoria West, second chair,
Alto II; Seniors: Lauren Ford, third
chair. Soprano II, Carrie Morris,
third chair. Soprano I~, John
Miller, fifth chair, Tenor II. "I've
never had such an outstanding
group of students with which to
work," states Brenda Music,
"they're smart, they musical, and
extremely self-disciplined. It is
especially fitting that these three
seniors have achieved this honor, as
each one will be pursuing music as
a career in the future."
While all four of the students are
Oklahoma; sons: Donald W.
McEnany of Alvin; Roy W.
McEnany of Freeport and David
Paul McEnany of McAlester, OK.
Other survivors include 22
grandchildren.
