The Chicago Fire.
The near approach et the
World's Fair awakens in-
creased interest in Chicago J
and her remarkable history.
Forty years age, Chicago
had but sixty brick buildings,
twenty years ago, the city
was in ashes ; now she has the
largest aggregation of splen-
did buildings to be found in ।
any city in the world. The
most thrilling and wonderful
chapter in the city’s history .
is the one telling of th- grest
tire and the subsequent re-
building. It reads almost
like a Fairy Story. The mag-
nificent Cyclorama of the Chi-.
cago Firs in th it city, show-
ing in a most surprising man-
ner the city during the great
fire, with its thousands of
acres of red hot ruins, thous-
ands more of a surging sea
of flame, and countless thous-
ands of panic stricken people
fleeing for their lives, i« preb-
abl, the most grand, awe in-
spiring, and realistic scene
ever produced by man. The
whole effect is greatly inten-
sified by the introduction of
novel, mechanical and electri-
cal devices, making the whole
situation seem like reality.
The remarkable exhibition is
$ located upon Michigan Ave..
near Madison street, and will
remain as a permanent attrac-
tion dining the World’s Fair.
Our readers should make a

DECATUR, WISE COUNTY, TEXAS. SATURDAY. APRIL 29. 1893.
wav matter is
From the Fort Worth Ga-
zette of April 21st:
The work is being rushed
on the Rock Island all along
the line. The long line of
cuts and fills is stretchiag its
sinuous course toward Fort
Worth, and the material for
the track is being massed at
Bowie. The bridges and cul-
verts are being put in rapidly
and the right-of-way agents
are as busy as nailers. It
was said yesterday that the
Rock Island rails would be
going dewa on its depot
grouedsin Fort Worth, with-
in 45 days. The work is be-
ing handled in such a manner
that that the back-spiking
and surfacing will be kept up
close on the heels of the track
layers, so that within a week
after connection is made with
the Houston & Texas Cen-
tral. threugh train service will
be inaugurated. It is said
that the securing of right-of-
wav along Pecan street to the
Union depot, is indicative of
the possibility that the Rock
Island will be able to secure
an entrance into the city with
out the necessity of using any
portion of the Twombly sec-
tion, and its connection with
the Houston & Texas Cen-
tral is also taken as a tapit
acknowledgment that the R.
I. company does not intend
to build further than Fort
Worth for the present,
