What will happen
to ADLf Hillel and
Bfnai Bfrith Youth
Organization?
On Sunday, Dec. 3, the Board of Governors of B’nai B’rith International passed
a resolution that set in motion a process to expel the 120,000-member B'nai B'rith
Women from the B'nai B'rith family.
B'nai B'rith Women is stunned and appalled by this reckless action.
According to the B'nai B'rith International resolution, B'nai B'rith Women will
be expelled for refusing to rescind a resolution of our own - passed over a year
ago - which affirmed the separately incorporated legal status of our organization.
In asking us to rescind our earlier resolution, B'nai B'rith International has also
demanded that B'nai B'rith Women acknowledge that B'nai B'rith International
has complete power and control over our every decision.
We cannot and will not make this acknowledgement. B'nai B'rith Women has
been legally incorporated as a separate organization since 1962. It has all the
rights to self-governance that such incorporation implies.
tn the several months that this action has been in the offing, B'nai B'rith's pres-
ident, Seymour Reich has also made dear to us that - not content with expelling
us- he intends to try to block our right to use the name B'nai B'rith Women.
Whatjs really going on here is transparent. B’nai B'rith International's decision-
makers now seek total control over their empire. They will brook no indepen-
dence. They have even threatened to take legal action against our organization
and the individual members of our Executive Board.
Let B'nai B'rith International rest assured that we will take every action to pro-
tect the name and the integrity of our organization. If B'nai B'rith International
mounts damaging actions against us, or the individual members of our Board, we *
will turn to the courts for our response. "
Through their extraordinary and unnecessary action, B'nai B'rith International
