SAN ANGELO, April 17.—Open-
ing of the second major Ordovic-
ian pool in the West Texas Basin

test about four miles northeast of
Southwestern Development Co. and
Penn Oil Co., Skelly, and Sinclair-
Prairie and five other companies
in a unit lease on 80 acres. Penn
and Cranfill have an undivided half
interest in section 8. diagonally
southeast of section 3, Gulf owning
the other half.
Southland Royalty Co. of Dallas
and Ponca City, Okla., owns much
of the royalty under Gulf’s block
and its stock rose on the strength
of the performance by the new Or-
dovician producer.
Production in West Texas’ only
other Ordovician field, the Big Lake
in Reagan county. is obtained from
8.334 to 9,020 feet, in the Ellen-
burger. It commands a premium on
account of its high gravity and high
lubricating content. Until Gulf No.
4 Waddell gushed, other wildcats
in a steadily widening exploration
program had failed.
Hockley County
The Texas Co. and others No. 1
Bob Slaughter, Hockley county dis-
covery well and one of the farthest
north in the Basin. ran tubing to
acidize late in the week. It still was
showing 20 gallons of salty-sulphur
water daily alter plugging back
from 5,030 to 5,023 feet. It headed
oil following swabbing. The well is
in King sand at 2.238-45 feet.
R. B Farris No. 1 Beasley estate,
in the W. T. Evans survey north of
old Fort Phantom Hill, was aban-
doned in ble shale at a total
depth of 2.080 feet.
Ungren & Frazier No. 3 . E. Sel-
lers, in Wm. Delk survey, between
the Sellers and Sayles producing
areas, was abandoned at 2,090 feet.
In Shackelford county, the Dan-
ciger No. 1 McCown, in the Ivy area
north of Lueders, was abandoned

locations and 25 completion*.

from 13 to 18 feet in length from

BIG SPRING, April 17.—One
completion was recorded for the
Big Spring area during the week,
the Enisbrook No. 11 Texas Land
and Mortgage. 3.310 feet from the
south arid 1,650 feet from the east
lines of section 4-30-ls. TAP, to
the East Howard pool.
Bottomed at 2:813 feet to lime,
the test topped pay at 3.635 feet
and was shot with 710 quarts. It
flowed at the rate of 815 barrels in
34 hours.
Moore Bros. No. 1 TXL. midway
on a supposed trend between the
East Howard and Chalk pools, 330
feet from the noxth and east lines
of section 33-30-ls, TAP, drilled to
2,490 feet. First shows were ex-

One of the striking things about
the- well is the thinning of the
Simpson, middle Ordovician, com-
pared to two nearby Gulf wells,
also on Waddell land, that pump
less than 100 barrels daily from
the Simpson. No. 4 Waddell topped
the Simpson at 5.824 feet, 3,265 feet
below sea level, and entered the El-
lenburger, lower Ordovician, at 6,002.
Gulf No. 1 Waddell, five-eights of
a mile northwest of No. 4 Waddell,
logged 456 feet of Simpson, the top
being 5.860 feet, 3,999 feet below sea
level, while No. 3 Waddell. 1 1-4
miles northeast of No. 1. drilled 504
feet of Simpson, which it topped at
6,003 feet 3,384 feet below sea level.
Both these wells found the Ellen-
burger barren and plugged back for
completion to the Simpson.

MIDLAND, April 17.—Further
exploration four miles west
of the Monument poo! in Lea coun-
ty, Southeast New Mexico, was as-
sured this week with the spudding
of Harry Leonard No. 1 Sidall in
the center of lot 7. section 6-20s-
38e. The test, which is drilling at
.hallow depth in the upper red
beds section, is a mile west and one
location south of a failure. John
Baldridge et al. No 1 Blakey in
section 5. four miles southwest W
the Hobbs pool. The No. 1 Blakey
struck sulphur water at 4,220 and
was abandoned at 4,430 with tools
lost in the hole.
New Locations •
Another new wildcat location of
some interest is much farther
north, in Curry County. It is the
Bond & Harrison et al No. 1 Hart
estate, in the center of the north-
west of the southeast section 13-
2n-31e, two miles south of Melrose.
Rotary is being rigged up for the
test, which is scheduled to go to
3,500 feet or production Standard
tools wil be rigged up after the salt
section has been penerated. Mag-
netometer and seismograph work
in the area are said to have indi-
cated the presence of structure. -

Re-acidized with 6.000 gallons

uum'area near Lovington in Lea.

it has been shot with 580 quarts
of nitro from 4,618 to 4,773 feet
