Resident complains about noise levels

On Saturday, March 9, at approximately 9:23 a.m., Alvin officers
responded to a burglary alarm at a restaurant in the 200 block of South
Gordon. Officers arrived to find that the front door had been shattered.'A
subsequent review of the store’s surveillance videos revealed that a white
male driving a green/tan cargo-style van broke out the front glass and
unlawfully entered the store. The suspect fled before police were noti-
fied of the alarm activation. The cargo ,yan was located abandoned the
next day by Alvin officers at an area convenience store. It was then deter-
mined that the van had been stolen in Houston near Fuqua Street the
morning of the burglary. No persons were found in or around the van.

Noise levels behind the strip mall off of
Fairview and Bypass 35 have Alvin resi-
dents angry and wanting city council to
take action. One man says he is fighting to
keep his neighborhood quiet from all the
noise.

will hold a spaghetti dinner
fund raiser on Friday and
Saturday, April 5 and 6, from
11:00 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4 p.m.-
8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall,
1718 S. Johnson, Alvin. Eat-
in or take-out, the menu
includes spaghetti, salad,gar-
lie bread, dessert and bever-
age, $5 for adults and $3 for
children (10 and younger).

Curtis Wilson, an Alvin businessman, has
been living with the noise from an oil drill
that has been behind his home for over two
weeks.
“For the last two weeks, the drilling has
gone on 24 hours a day,” said Wilson.
The oil drill is owned by the Louisiana
Gas Development Corporation which is
based out of Louisiana.

“The citations equal
$100 a day, which is noth-
ing to them," said Wilson.
His frustrations lie not
only with the noise, but
also with the city.
“They have totally
ignored the requests of the
citizens that this is affect-
ing."

Alvin High School Principal
Lynne Cleveland has notified
AISD that she has accepted the
position as principal of Clear
Lake High School.
Cleveland was approved by
Clear Lake recently and will
assume her duties there on July 1.
“We are saddened at losing Mrs.
Cleveland, but wish her well in
her new position," said
Superintendent of Schools Dr.
Greg Smith.
“Mrs. Cleveland will continue
her duties as principal of Alvin
High School until she completes
her contract date," he added.
