Combining an air-tight defense with a versatile offense,
the unbeaten Brenham Cubs racedby a stubborn band of A&M
Consolidated Tigers, 41-6, here Friday night in a District
10-3A North Zone contest played before 4,200 fans, who also
enjoyed the Homecoming activities in perfect football
weather.
The largest crowd of the season at Cub Stadium saw the
Cubs rack up their seventh consecutive win and second North
7one victory to grab a share of the league lead with Hunts-
ville, which nipped Bryan Kemp, 12-8, Friday. A&M fell to
4-3.on the season and 1-1 in Zone, while La Grange, (1-1)
stayed in the thick of the battle with a 26-0 win over Nava-
sota (0-2).
Something's got to give this Friday night when the Cubs
travel to Huntsville, whose Hornets have compiled a fine 5-2
season mark, including an earlier 46-8 North Zone victory
over Navasota.
Brenham took advantage of three pass interceptions by
linebacker Otis McCray and the recovery of two Tiger .
-fumbles to register a 29-0 halftime lead against a tough
A&M Consolidated-defense. Fullback Roosevelt Leaks got
three of the touchdowns on short runs. The Cubs threw up'
an even tougher defense, permitting the Tigers just three
first downs in the opening two quarters, including only-15
yards rushing and 55 in the air.
The closest A&M could get score coming on a one-yard
to scoring in the first half was blast over left guard. Bock-
to Brenham’s 31 on their last horn’s kick made it 7-0 with
