By 38 Votes In Recount

Charles Waldrum won the county attorney’s race in a re-
count of votes by a narrow margin of 38 votes with 3,437 to
3,399 for Bill Terry, who had won in the first count by 28
votes.
The recounting of votes started Monday morning and was
finished Tuesday morning about 10 a.m. J.B. Richey was
chairman of the recounting committee with Gary Davis and
John Snead assisting.
Only 7 boxes in the county were without error. The big-
gest mistake was made in the East Bonham box where Wal-
drum was found to have 65 more votes than he had been
credited with previously.

69has been donated for the purchase of a firetruck for the
City of Ladonia,

The Westerners
To Provide Music For Dance
The Westerners from Paris will furnish the music for a
dance Saturday night, June 3rd from 9 p.m, until 12 p.m.
at the Eastman arena. Tickets are $2. 00 per couple and
$1.50 for single. Members of the local fire department will
sponsor the dance. Because of rain on May 6 this event was
postponed. Proceeds from the firemen’s dance and the ice
cream supper scheduled by members of the Chamber of
Commerce will be used toward purchase of a new fire-
truck.
Services Held For Orville Shelton
GREENVILLE-Funeral services for Orville Eugene Shelton,
62, were Thursday afternoon at Sorrells and Sons Memorial
Chapel with the Rev. Bob Dickerman officiating.
Burial was in Memoryland Memorial Park with nephews
of Mr. Shelton acting as pallbearers.
Mr. Shelton was killed Tuesday afternoon, May 9, 1972,
when the tractor he was driving overturned.
He was born in Ladonia on Dec. 23, 1909, the son of R.
W. and Ida Rattan Shelton. He married the former Rena Kil-
gore at Mineola in 1937.
Mr. Shelton was a member of the Greenville Masonic
Lodge,
Survivors include his wife and four half brothers, E.H.
Taylor, Paul Taylor, Jack Taylor and James Robert Taylor;
two sisters, Mrs, Ruby Robardez of California and Mozelle
Linker of Howe,
Richard 1. Fuller Rites Held
Richard J. Fuller, Sr., 81 of East Paris Street, Ladonia,
died in the VA hospital at Dallas Saturday, May 6, 1972, af-
ter an extended illness.
Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Grove CME
church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, with the Rev. A.J.
Lawson, Jr., officiating. Burial was in the New Harmony
Cemetery with Fannin County Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife of the home, three sons, Ho-
ward J. Fuller, Jr., of Ladonia and Hoyt and Ralph Fuller,
both of Dallas; four daughters, Mrs. May Handy and Mrs.
Winnie Hayes, both of Dallas, Mrs. Paulette Garrett of New
York and Mrs. Neil Washington of Sulphur Springs; two broth-
ers, Aaron Fuller of California and Charles Fuller of Bonham,
18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
On Veteran’s Graves Memorial Day
VFW and Ladies Auxiliary Post 5876 at a recent meeting
voted to honor the deceased veterans in this area on Me-
morial Day by placing a flag on each grave. This request
is made to families with veterans buried in this area. Con-
tact one of the following members of the Auxiliary and as-
sist with information - Mrs. J.E. Holt 367-7426 or Mrs.
Thomas Casper 367-7030.
VFD To Sponsor
"Toby's Show” Thursday
The Ladonia Volunteer Fire Dept, is sponsoring "TOBY’S
SHOW" Thursday evening, May 18 at 7 p.m. on north side
city hall lawn. This circus is clean family entertainment
and the firemen's percentage of gate fees will go toward
firetruck fund.

formation. Bring the children - enjoy a circus.
Pre-School Registration
To Be May 19
The (Pre-school) Headstart registration for this summer
will begin on Friday, May 19, 1972, at 10:00 a.m., Odus
Walser, Fannindel principal, has announced, "You are asked
to come on this date and bring your child, " he said.
Full summer school starts on June 5 and ends June 30, "If
you know of other children who will be five (5) before Sep-
tember 1, please tell their parents of our plans, " he conclud-
ed.
Fannindel Girl Places
In State Track Meet
Karen Jones, a Fannindel sophomore, competed in the
UIL Texas State girls track meet placing 4th in the triple
jump and Sth in the long jump. The competition was held
in Austin Saturday, May 13 at the University of Texas stad-
ium under the UIL for the first time this year.
Karen was accompanied by Coach and Mrs. Ronnie Hollo-
way, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones and Patricia
Fink.
The group stayed at the Holiday Inn and visited the capi-
tol building, the LBJ Library and other points of interest at
the capital.

A group or children hold ears to muffle sound
of artillery pieces as S. Vietnamese troops fire on enemy posi-
tions recently from this firebase some four miles north of
Dong Ha.
Rev. Chancellor
Celebrates 86th Birthday
Last Monday, May 8th was the 86th birthday anniversary
for one of Ladonia’s senior citizens, the Rev, E.B. Chancel-
lor. Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
here many years ago, the Rev. Mr. Chancellor moved here
some years ago following his retirement from the active min-
istry.
On the occasion of his birthday, Mr. Chancellor was pre-
sented a pin as a memento of his over fifty years as a minis-
ter in the Christian Church. The presentation was made by
the Rev. Edwin W. Gorom, Ladonia First Christian Church
minister. Present for the occasion in addition to Mr. Gorom
was the Rev. John Cope, pastor of the Central Christian
Church in Greenville. Mr. Cope led in prayer in me short
informal ceremony for the pin presentation.

Fannindel School
Offers Enrichment Program
There will be an enrichment program offered this summer
■ for those students that are performing below grade level
in word knowledge, reading and spelling. This program will
coincide with the pre-school program that will begin on June
5 and end June 30. Students in grades 3 through 6 will be
allowed to attend this program.
This program will be limited to twelve participants, Let-
ters will be sent to parents of children that are performing
below grade level.
Earnest Higgs Services Held
Funeral services for Earnest Higgs of Ladonia, were held
at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Thursday afternoon, May
11. Mr. Higgs, 81, was born at Ladonia, Nov. 5, 1891, the
son of Lue and Monroe Higgs. He married Bertha Hart, Nov.
6, 1915, and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
The Rev. W.R. Payne officiated and interment was in
Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and three sons,
all of whom live elsewhere; two sisters, Mrs. Arvelia Hart
and Mrs. Beatrice Ennis, both of Ladonia; sixteen grand-
children and five great-grandchildren.
